When you turn the ignition to the accessory position you should hear the relay engage. Can you be a little more specific about the problem?

It could be so many things, unless you can give a brief history of what happened before the car decided not to start I could rattle off several things and still not even come close to diagnosing the problem. Do the accessories work? Does the engine crank but not turnover? You need to supply more details. Here are a few things to check:

If you recently changed your thermostat check the ground wire that attaches to the thermostat housing.

Check all the fuses again, and again.

Bypass the alarm if you have one. My alarm shorted out which screwed up the starter kill.

Check the ignition coil.

if your starter is not reponding at all, then it might be the switch on your clutch pedal. this happened to me and i would push the clutch hard against the floor trying to start it. but I found out if hold the key all the way to start the car then slowly push the clutch down it would find a spot it liked and start (make sure its in nutrual)

well i was driving to a friends house..car running good. nothing wrong what so ever. then i parked the car..went to hang out with some friends..i come back and try to go home..the car wouldnt start. i bought a new distributor. changed the spark plug also. i tested the spark plug by puttng a bolt in the wires and grounding it on my engine. and it has spark. my car cranks..seems like it wants to start..but it doesnt. i recently checked the fuel..by unplugging the return line and having a friend crank it. and fuel shoots out the regulator. so i guess that means there fuel? all the accessories work. when i click my key i car hear the pump. so im guessing my main relay is good. all my fuse are good. so do you think what else i need to check?

Hmm, I hate these kinds of problems. I've been through a few myself, they usually tend to be something stupid like a ground wire. Remove the alarm from the equation. Like I said, my alarm shorted out and caused my car to die all the time. Everything seemed okay, the car cranked, the accessories worked, all the other things checked out okay but the alarm's starter kill was the problem

Damn I'm having nearly the same problem. I wasn't getting any sound but the motor turning over and some clicking sound, I replaced the distributor and got great spark but only once got sound of combustion. I checked the fuel lines and lots of other ****. I just tried what mechanix619 said about the thermostat and dicovered the ground was off and that was all I needed. thanks mechanix619

yea but the thing is..i dont even have an alarm lol....so that cant be the problem. im out of ideas man. the only thing i need to check is the timing and when i looked at the timing belt.it looks fine. but it can be off i dont know...do you know when u put a spark plug in is it manditory that you need to space it? becuase i just took it out of the box..and put it in..the spark plugs are brand new. could it be that one of the fuel injectors arent working? how do i check to see if a fuel injector is working or not..its just weird how it wouldnt start after driving it normally. What are the chances of my bottom block being messed up?

it may seem stupid, but i usually can fix most of my electrical problems with some patience and a wiring diagram. i would suggest one regarding your igntion, if the car cranks and you get fuel the only other thing that seems probable is the ignition system or a bad ground somewhere. just my $.04 G/L.

The spark plugs need to be gapped to a certain specification, that would definitely cause your engine not to turn over especially if they are all off.

Did you install the distributor correctly?

The thermostat should be located near the distributor.

yea i installed the distributor correctly...is there a way to install it incorrectly? i lined it up and just pushed it in..plugged da wires. and put the firing order as 1-3-4-2. When you buy the spark plug brand new. does it need to be gapped? so your saying you just cant take it out the box and put them in? because thats what i did.

Yes, you have to gap the spark plugs, I think I mentioned that.

Right on. It's always a good feeling when the car starts. The idle control makes perfect sense. Like I said previously, there is always a story as to why a car randomly doesn't start, it's more than likely because something was messed with.

Passenger side 4-3-2-1 Drivers side

Firing order
1 - 3 - 4 - 2

Distributor
