how to check for bad rings?

how to check for bad rings?
just recently something went wrong with the motor and i have white smoke coming out of my exhaust. i know it could be a head gasket but someone also told me that it could be a bad ring too...if this is a possibility then i would probably be leaning more towards that just because of the way it sounds when im driving it.. sooo how would i check to see if it is a bad ring without ripping the whole motor apart? TIA

Bad rings you will have blue smoke coming out. (correct me if I'm wrong)</TD></TR></TABLE>
..ok well if its not rings then is there any thing else besides a headgasket that could cause antifreeze to get into the motor?

its either a blown head gasket, cracked head, or cracked block. My moneys on the headgasket.

You want to replace that HG ASAP!!! If you keep driving like this you can warp the head or block and it will never seal correct again.

3 layer steel. I'm assuming you have a D15B7? I really wouldn't recomend turboing that after its blown a headgasket, its hard enough trying to keep them from blowing a second time naturally aspirated.

well if it's white smoke, it CANNOT be your rings.
If it were your rings, you'd be burning oil. Hence blue smoke.
It sounds more like a headgasket.
Unless it sounds like a scooby....mine did when it cracked a sleeve. White smoke everywhere!

there's really not that much smoke.. but something like a grinding/scraping sound when i give it some gas.. not so much when driving normally
