How can you tell if your motor is JDM?
Basically my question is how can you tell if your motor is JDM? My friend told me that all jdm motors have an "A" stamped on them over the eng code. Is this true? Is there any other way of verifying this?

you can tell by looking at the Block and if there is a number after the letter than it is USDM and if there is no number then its JDM.
For example we all know the B18C5 to be the USDM Type R motor but in Japan it would just be the B18C
Or for another example the USDM B16A1, B16A2, B16A3 are all various generations of the B16 but in JAPAN the mtor would just be stamped B16A.
Hope this solves your problem.

Not quite. On my USDM B16A2 valve cover it says VTEC bigger than DOHC, with the H and it says HONDA. ON USDM Acura GSRs and ITRs, the DOHC is bigger than VTEC, and it says Honda Motor Co.
All JDM B-series valve covers look like the USDM B16A2 but may be red or black depending on model.
And to further complicate things, I think the old JDM EFs with the B16A had DOHC>VTEC and Honda Motor Co. like Acura B18s.
Either way, valve covers are interchangeable and the only true way to tell if it is JDM or USDM is by the casting on the block as someone else said.

That pretty much sums it up. But there is the B16A4 (Which i learnt of not too long ago on a thread here on HT) which is JDM. It comes in the SiR-II or something.

Yes, but a variant of the B18C is also in the Japanese SiR-G. Same engine code however.
