i think you should get a "Check Engine" light if VTEC is not functioning properly, thats what I think. any other opinions

hook a oil pressure guage up to the fitting on the head, next to the vtec solenoid, then drive the car. if it jump from 0psi to 75 psi or so, you know the everything up to and including the vtec solenoid is good. if there is a mechanical problem after the solenoid, you need to put 70 psi of air pressure to the aforemention fitting in the head and check vtec manually. it's all in the manual (helms) folks.
