how can i tell if my fuel pump is maxed? fuel cut?
i recently put a jdm ITR motor in my del sol, the ecu is a chipped p28.. the fuel pump is stock (80lph i think). i took the car out for a drive and drives fine for a little while. once i get on it a few times i start to get a fuel cut before the rev-limit (6-7k rpms) then as it begins to idle again it may stall out and doesnt want to restart anytime soon.. i finally got it to restart and made it home, only other possibility is that there is a vacuum leak, i dont know if that would effect it or not. let me know what you think it could be!

how do you figure?
it started again eventually and drove fine.. just again got fuel cuts at high rpms, only after getting on it a couple of times

the cluster also starts to jump in MPH and in RPM at idle and while driving. i personally think its something to do with the fuel pump, since when we hit VTEC is when the cluster goes crazy, sputtering, and the motor shutting down begins to happen.

If the RPMs are jumping around then its an ignition problem. Fuel pumps usually crap out when your trying to push out more psi then they can pump. Stock pumps can not handle more then the stock psi (42).

well really the motor wasnt having a crazy idle like a vacuum leak it was just the cluster. We were cruising at 40mph in 5th gear and the cluster was dropping down to like 1500rpms and then jumping to like 6000 but the motor itself didnt have a crazy idle. We pulled over at a golf course parking lot and he tried turning it over when we first got there then we let it sit and then primed the pump a couple times since we noticed that was helping the motor start and run for a couple of seconds before shutting back down. He let the car sit for abotu 5 to 10 minutes then primed the pump and turned it over and it started and we let the car sit at idle for around 10 minutes while waiting for a friend to follow us back but the same problem happened again once he went above 5k rpms and repeated the process of waiting and priming and nursed it back home

When fuel pumps max out they dont come back. By maxing them out they overheat and burn out. Your problems are an ignitor problem.

i fixed my jumpy tach problem that i had by swaping the ignitor with a known good one from my dx distributor.
