Re: how can i tell? (kydoster)
Write down the VIN, go to http://www.carfax.com, it'll tell you what trim at least.

Del Sol VTEC has a B16. A B16 is a DOHC VTEC Engine.

Re: (Chong)
thats what i said in the begining, i thought maybe i was misunderstood....i know it is not a si so that only leaves the s and base mdoel....is there not a number somewhere under the hood? somehting that tells the engine type?

You said the sticker has been removed, and that the engine is a SOHC.
Therefore IT CANNOT be the DEL SOL VTEC.
Which leaves the S and the Si. Look under the hood, and compare with the pictures posted above.

not trying to be an asshat-they could have had a b16 in there and blown it up. then put a d in to sell it. go with the vin. more accuracy if you dont know what your looking at or for.

You're confused. There are only 3 trim levels of del Sols in the US:
- S
- Si
- VTEC
The S is the base model and comes with a SOHC non-VTEC engine (D15B7 in '93-95 models, and D16Y7 in '96-97 models).
The Si is the mid-range model and comes with a SOHC VTEC engine (D16Z6 in '93-95 models, and D16Y8 in '96-97 models).
The VTEC is the top-of-the-line model, and comes with a DOHC VTEC engine (B16A3 in '94-95 models, and B16A2 in '96-97 models).

Yes. The engine code is stamped onto the front of the block, right next to where it mates to the transmission bell housing (to the left of the exhaust manifold).

Why don't you read my ******* post. I even posted pictures so that you could easily identify what motor is in the car. Look at the car, and then look at the pictures I posted. It's not that ******* complicated.
