read, read and read.

one thing in life that is a nice quote to live by is

"when you listen, you learn. when you speak, you say what you already know"

just listen, and read. experience on your own part will back those up

Yep... buy a helms manual and DIY (Do it yourself)
that's the basis of most knowledge... when something breaks, figure out how to do it yourself or with a friend that know's how to do it. (and have the RIGHT TOOLS) especially when monkeying with engine bolts, they need to be at certain foot lbs. of torque.. too much.. snap.. too little.. and you got engine projectiles.. and basically, when you have a question.. ask someone who knows... self tought y0!

buy a helm's manual and get to work. service your car every weekend. do something more complex each time. change fluids the first weekend... change brake pads later... then springs/shocks... then axles... you get the idea. don't be afraid to work on your own car.

btw im 17 too and if i can do it you can do it

fix everything yourself, ask questions, fix your friend's cars, ask questions, go to school, and ask questions.

Yes, never be afraid to ask.

There is no such thing as a stupid question. It's only stupid if you assume you know something but you dont.

But also use the search function or you'll get flamed like some marshmellows.

Key advice right there.. You wont learn ANYTHING if you are afraid to try it. I was afraid that i would mess my car up when i first started.. but hell i mess my car up by driving it so i might as well take a risk and do all the work myself.. hehe.

Broke bolts, got **** stuck in the belts, burnt up **** and shorted out radios and amps and speakers and ****, all kinds of crazy stuff.. but now.. Im still ******* stupid and break stuff j/k, I'm alot more careful now and alot more experienced. Good thing everything I broke was on my cheapo Ford truck, cheap as hell to replace.

Read? Yuck. Everybody learns differently. I learn by experience. Start off with small tasks like changing oil filters, distributor cap, etc.

I've got a bent power steering pulley on my car. Think this will be a good place to start? I think I can just get the part from a Honda dealership?

DIY, read the boards, ask questions...

If you think you will need a tool buy it. You will use it later. Buy a Helms now! I wish I had at first. Last but not least, learn from your mistakes.
