How can I get more torque from my civic?
I own a 94 2door Civic EX. This thing has NO torque. Im just wondering what would be the best way to give this thing some power down low. Are there any good superchargers for this engine or should I be looking at engine swaps instead?
Im looking to spend around $3000 in the power department but am going to focus mainly on handling and making this car look nicer. Also can someone point me in the direction of a good lsd for my car? Thanks ahead of time.

Forget about it......... to get a lot of torque you have to spend a decent chunk of change. It is a HONDA and we all know hondas dont have torque.

yea i agree with EM199dcs, honda's don't really get good torque. if you want torque swap out a diesel or get the new RDX engine 2.3 turbo (wouldn't mind putting that in my hatch).

Seriously though. You can spend 1000 bux on a turbo (about avg w/ all the loose ends picked up, tuning and all) - good tune, you can get a good 200whp for everyday driving off of that...then of course if you reinforce the rods you can put 100 shot in there...but nitrous is only temporary, but it'll put your torque numbers almost up to your whp numbers as nitrous is a HUGE torque booster (watch the CCR where they nitrous charged the stock chevy cobalt SS) - gained over 100 ft lbs of torque and 60 whp.
If you wanna build that any naturally aspired, isn't going to happen, you can spend 2.5k on a B16 long block (which'll run ya close to 3 when ya get all the kinks worked out + conversion harnesses, etc.), but that only has 140whp or so, and torque isn't much better than urs currently due to the D16, another common complaint (I didn't feel this way, but a lto of others do) is you have to keep it in VTEC to get power out of it, I feel it still has more power than a D16 out of VTEC.
An LS/VTEC might fit into your budget, but your best bet is to reinforce the rods/low comp pistons/rings (machine shop pressed) - put 'em in, run a decent size turbo at 10 or so PSI, get it tuned pro (300 bux or so ) with hondata (250 or some crap like that) and you'll be pushin 200whp np as a daily driver w/o the chance of throwin a rod... Probably the best solution by far - should be about maybe...1500-1.8k?

I don't know I have a D16Z6 with cai, header, exhaust and I think I have pretty descent torque. My vtec kicks in around 5000 and the car doesnt redline until 7000 so I feel pretty comfortable taking it to 6500 all the time. The head has also been milled to raise compression so I'm sure this plays a factor.
Next mods... higher compression pistons, lighter rods, camshaft, adjustable cam gears, port and polish head, intake manifold and bigger throttle body.

turbo the d16...a freind of mine has an hf manifold with a small dsm turbo on it. 13psi on drag radials and an internally stock engine netted him a 13.0@106...i have ridden in it and in 1st gear it is similar to my turbo gsr...after that i win!!! but turbo single is not a bad idea at all...especially with your budget

I cant belive no one said B20 Best thing I can think of for you budget. Lsd There are a few ATS makes a great one But as far as price goes people go Kaaz or Quaife. There are alot of others like cussco, spoon, Lsd kits. But I feel Quaife is best price for the product.

Yep b20 turbo! lol I swapped out my zc for a 2nd gen b16a a while back, I had MSD on it, headers, Intake, Exhaust, and a 75 shot of nitrous that thing ripped **** to pieces!

Some pple did say the GSR swap, that'll be nice..though a SOHC turbo will still own it in it's stock I/H/E form :-P. Though N/A SOHC's like the D16 blow in every aspect except boost, the good part about 'em is if you blow a rod out the side, you can buy a whole replacement engine for not too much. And if you want LSD, that's like 100 bux extra O.o.
I'm not sure if you can do this with these 4 banger eco boxes, but on a RWD you can weld the gears in the rear differential accross to give you positraction in a regular differential car O.O. Back to the GSR, it's more torquey, though not by much, something heavily noticable of course, but blah. I still stand by my reinforce, tune, and boost what you have, you'll blow all these motors away with a good tune, reinforced rods/low comp pistons, better fuel system, and you'll still be inside your budget. Plus you can still have enough for that LSD tranny you want. Think about it.

Yes, you can weld the diff on a Honda trans but its not very fun having to make 4 point turns in parking lots and the constant wheels hopping when you turn lol. Not to mention breaking axles hah.

haha... just offering a more simplier method to adding torque without telling him to get a mustang or going through the hassle of an engine swap since hes mostly conserned with handling and appearence. besides a unique whine or hiss is much more pleasing to some then high hp numbers

we don't know much about wheat burners either so don't worry about it man.
turbo is complicated if your doing it your self and takes alot of reading to do it right. best and cheapest way IMO to get a nice bolster in power would be the JRSC.
it wont get ou the speed of a turbo or the RPM of a B series engine but it Will definetly give the car plenty of pep on the streets. I remebr seeing one on http://www.d-series.org for 900 bucks complete kit!. the gay FMU that comes with it makes 146whp according to JRSC. with an actual tune with a chipped ecu 170whp is attainable
