How bouncy is too bouncy??

How bouncy is too bouncy??
Alright so friend just dropped his car on some skunk2s and using some used KYB GR2's..... Its about 10 threads up front and 18 in the rear..... On Si wheels....
It rides fine and bouncing around a little is kind of a norm for a lowered car right?? Its been awhile since I've been in a lowered car so I couldn't really tell him if something was wrong.
How bouncy is too bouncy?? And what might the problem be?
Thanks.

um well it should not be bouncy at all, but should be able to feel the road more and feel bumbs and such, you might want to cut off more bumb stop he could be rideing on it and that causes bouncyness.

I think everyones idea of "too bouncy" will probably be different. Is it a stiff bounce, or is it just jolting, and reckless? Did he chop the bumpstops?

well they are useless to me because my car would hit the ground befor the strut bottomed out. i would say 1/2 to 3/4 and keep the smaller amount on the car. i don't have any but its a risk you might take

depends on your tires as well. i have h&r sports and neuspeed koni yellows and have them set to close to full firm. when i'm riding on the highway and around town on my 205/50-15 azenis it's a super smooth ride, but when i have my crappy all season tires for winter on and am driving around my car is SUPER bouncy on the highway and somewhat around town. hi-yah!

I beleive your set-up will bounce more than say a more expensive coilover system. I have kYB/AGX and H&R Race springs. It's bouncy, but the bounce is a controlled one. Meaning that it bounces and then settles quickly. Not like a bounce you might see on a POS car with destroyed shocks where it bounces the full extension of travel, falls to complete compression, and then rises again to full extension. It's the funniest thing to see those cars looking like they have hydros or something. Sometimes I'll be on the freeway and enter an area with uneven sections of cement, like they all shifted a couple of degrees at one end. It feels like the car is rising and then dropping suddenly over a tiny ledge over and over again. The faster I go the more the car bounces. If I'm going say 75mph, the car bounces very steadily. First the front end drops off the "tiny ledge" the front shocks compress followed by the rear dropping and compressing. It's kind of like a teeter-totter effect rising and dropping very quickly.

If you cut your bumpstops, can you place the other half back on?
Ive had skunk2 adjustables and kyb agx for about 1 1/2 yrs. the ride is pretty stiff and bouncy and im considering cutting the bumpstops. here is a pic of one of my bumpstop.
im about 1.5" dropped and i dont want to make the mistake of ruining my shocks if the bumpstops get cut. thanx.

It is recommended by KYB not to cut more than half the bumpstop.

Half is about an inch, it is recommend no more than and inch. You might want to put the sleave on your strut back on... Your bumpstop will detearorate...

ok thanx for the clarification on that. I will see if i can get around cutting them this weekend or when it stops raining here in cali. the sleeve is still there, i just pulled it down to take a good pic.
btw, woot, how is/was your ride quality?
Oh and one more thing. which part do i keep on, the big half or the small half?

if your car feels like your hitting switches, i think that is too bouncy. with my car-GC konis one full turn-it takes a bump and keeps going, no bounce. i like it that way, very racecar like.

Re: How bouncy is too bouncy?? (crs)
back in my "beginner days", i had some cheap coilovers with stock struts and while driving in baltimore i hit a bump with my friend in the back seat. he went to his doctor the next day to find out that he had a herniated (cant spell for ****) disk in his back. now that's too bouncy.

beyond bouncy is "hoppy" i have tein ra's and i dont bounce... the car just jumps from bump to bump, i really like it when im by myself but it makes me feel bad for my passengers. handles awesome though and there is no body roll.

Re: How bouncy is too bouncy?? (euclid)
The ride is going to be bouncy and its just gonna get worse. KYB GR2s are stock replacements and note suited for lowered applications. TO make matters worse, the skunk2 coils have a high spring rate.
high spring rate + stock shocks = bouncy ride & eventually blown shocks.
