Default How-To: 3-Point Strut Tower Bar (PW:JDM, Carbing, Etc.) On 96-00 Civic

Ok, this is a really easy install. Seriously, it's kind of sad that I'm making this write-up ... I'm actually doing this because PW:JDM's instructions are down and out for the moment.

Anyways, on to the meat:

Tools Needed:
1/2" Drive Socket Wrench
14mm Deep Socket (at least 1/2" Drive)
10mm Socket
Needle-Nose Pliers
Gloves (because I've got sensitive girlie hands)

Step 1: Gather all necessary parts, tools, and supplies.

Step 2: Remove the gray plugs from the firewall with your needle-nose pliers.

These are the two holes your rear bracket will bolt to.

Step 3: Remove shock tower nuts with your 14mm deep socket.

Step 4: Unhook the throttle cable (and cruise control cable if applicable). Bend the bracket downward to allow clearance past the tower bar.

Step 5: Mount the on the shock towers and align the rear plate with the bolt holes on the firewall.

*OPTIONAL* You can reroute your throttle and cruise control cables through the holes on the bar's mounting plate. If you do this, you will need to remove the original cable mounting bracket (held on with 1x 10mm bolt). Also note that you will need to completely unhook your throttle and cruise control cables. This is not recommenced for people who do not know how to properly adjust a throttle cable.

Step 6: Thread and hand-tighten the 10mm through the mounting bracket into the threaded holes on the firewall.

Step 7: Thread and hand tighten the 14mm nuts back onto the shock tower.

Step 8: Torque everything down to spec, stand back, and admire your work.

Happy handling!

looks really good bro, im planing on the 3 point front and 4 point rear for my eh2 once i get it painted.

i cant stand when people make fun of the passwordJDM strut tower braces... i mean for the money they are top notch and cheaper than carbing. nice write up btw its common sense to a lot of people but the remainder of them struggle.

edit: this may be a long shot.... but did the car feel any different?

This was done on my girlfriend's coupe. When I replace my GSR OE bar, I'll be getting a real Carbing .... but that's because of the MC brace ... and the bling factor.

That little nub presses against the mastery cylinder, ups brake pedal pressure.

I took a 45mph sweeping transition at 85/90 in fourth tonight and remembered why lifting even five percent is a bad idea The *** twitched just enough to make one of my nuts run for cover next to my liver. God, I love suspension

I mention this because I'm a big fan of triangulated braces.

Nice write up as always Eran. Even though you did this because PW's instructions are down, I know this will be usefull for most people... not everyone has car/tool knowledge and gets stuck on the simplest of tasks(simple to most). How is the pricing of PW's 3-pt to that pictured in WeakSoS? I hear those MC's braces make a good difference.

It's a lot cheaper .... but like I said, I'll be getting the Carbing for the bling factor.

Simple yes, but I personally think we can never have too many write-ups. No matter what it is you are doing to your car, its nice to have someone lay it out in front of you beforehand.
