did you hot tank the head as a complete unit???? valves, springs, retainer, etc installed???
If so, I would recommend having new valve stem seals put in before you run the head. It's always a good idea to replace those after hot tanking the head with them installed.
But yeah, spray some oil or lube on the head and wrap it up in an air tight bag

yeah, i hot tanked it as a complete unit. on me. i'm going to replace everything besides the retainers and the intake valvesprings anyways. are they still usable?

oh yeah, you're fine.
Everything's cool in the hot tank, but those seals sometimes go bad. Better replace them no matter what though, but even more so after tanking it.

I don't mean to be a dick but just so you know, aluminiun (what the head is made out of) does not rust, steel does. Aluminuim actually oxidizes which is the discolourization of the surface metal.

No again you're fine...
there is aluminum is a pretty non-reactive metal so any oxidization can easily be polished off..
I know there's this stuff but I can't figure out where to find it.... anyway it's meant for polished aluminum parts to prevent oxidization.. it makes the polished aluminum stay shiney for upto a year instead of a couple of weeks...
I think it's made by "zoots" or maybe that's what it's called... it was on "trucks" but I can't seem to find it on there site and got no reponse from an email to them..
I don't know if it'd be suitable for a high temp app. like a head though...
*edit*
it's called "zoop seal"...
here's there site...

From their site (in reference to high temp apps...)
Formulated for use on cars, trucks, boats motorcycles, engines, wheels and interior accessories.

hmmm.... you're kinda wrong there, aluminum is actually an extremley reactive metal, as soon as its polished the surface oxidises almost instantly forming a layer of aluminium oxide. This is impermeable to oxygen so the aluminium beneath this layer is protected until you rub it off. Usually you get corrosion problems when reactive chemicals come into contact with the aluminum oxide layer......but yeah, once its formed the oxide layer it doesn't tend to corrode unless you get other chemicals on it.....

i've seen people actually just store the head in a vat of cheap motor oil. it will not hurt it.

Sure it oxidizes but I wouldn't go so far as to say "almost instantly"...
I've polished LOTS of aluminum and it usually takes at least a couple weeks to start being noticably oxidized...
Anyway that was the point of linking to that polished aluminum protectant...
