Hot Potato with a D16Y8..HOW HARD TO LIFT?
I have no access to a hoist at the moment but i need to get this motor to my house ASAP.
I was wondering if anyone's had experience with lifting a D16Y8 or any motor without a hoist.
The idea is for me and a co worker to lift this motor into the back seat of my 98 EX 2DOOR or the Front Seat floor. After Eye balling it, i think it can be done.
Do you guys think or know if two people can lift this motor without much issue just high enough to get it into the interior of a car?
Thanks in advance

two people could throw a single.
How hard is it going to be to get in a car, i dont know. Ive only put them in trunks.
What you could do is pick it up and set it on the door sill, cover it so it doesnt get beat up...
have someone hop in the car grab it and bring it in.

We're about 200 lbs each. u think we can sling this motor over some fences? jump with it on a trampoline? maybe put it on our backs and walk a mile with it? what's the prognosis?

That's sorta how i imagined it happening. You spoke of trunk, do you think it'll fit in a EK COupe trunk if i lay it down? IS IT even ok to lay a motor down? definitely using sheets and blankets

its probly fine to lay her down if all the coolant and oil is drained from the block. me and a buddy moved one around quite a bit when i did my swap, they arent that heavy. three people is way easier than two, trust me... i have a couple homies that just take the passenger side seat out when they want to haul a motor. plenty of room then.

It would be easier to remove the passenger seat and throw it on the floorboard. I'd think that 2 moderately strong guys could do it. It would be IMO much harder to get into the backseat.
When I bought my GSR engine, it was thrown into the back of my CRV by one dude, but he was HUGE. Like 6'5" 350 huge. His friends called him King Kong.

My friend carrys this single he has every other day, he uses it to work out lol
It's ok to lay it down but i would do my best to keep it striaght up.
You should be ok to put it in the trunk. But putting it in the car with the pass seat out i think would be a bit easier.
When we did it we emptyd the trunk completly and set it in the spare tire area.
My friend once had a gsr long block and a short block in his hatch at once.

single cams are not heavy, I've unloaded one out of a truck and put it on an engine stand by myself and i'm 5'6" 150lbs, but it probably wasn't the smartest way to do it

Yeah it will definitely fit in the trunk. the idea with the pasenger seat removed is brilliant lol. there is no trans connected either right? or intake/exhaust manifold? should be easy to carry.

You can carry it with a friend no problem. The weight distribution makes them unwieldy.
Remove the alternator, flywheel and crank pulley to lessen weight.
Remove the throttle body to avoid damaging the tps.

Thanks so much for you guy's assistance your words are encouraging and very inspiring. I think i'll take the Passenger seat out, I also agree that the idea is brilliant.
Let's take it one step further.
Has anyone ever put a motor in the car from the top without a HOIST? hahahaha Im seriious about this question.
Thank you guys again. U guys are the sh*t forreal!

As for the Trampoline i was thinking maybe if i dropped the motor from a distance in height i can get it to bounce and land itself in the engine bay and possibly wire itself back up too! lol

No way you'll be able to drop it in from the top with no hoist. There's no way 2 guys can get enough leverage to do it, and still have the fine control required to line up the mounts. Just rent a hoist, they're not that expensive.
If you absolutely can't get a hoist, lots of people put engines in from the bottom. Just raise the nose waaaaay up, slide the engine underneath, then lower the nose / jack up the engine. I've never tried it that way, but lots of people swear it's easier.

No way its going in on top without a hoist.
Going in from the bottom is pretty easy.
the last time we did it, we had a hoist but still went in from bottom. We used the hoist to lift the car up Yes we were drunk, lol
but we put the engine on this thing, and lowerd the car over it.
I want to say it was a tool box, but what it did was made it easier to get it at just the right angle to get the mounts on.
without screwing around with jacks.
ive done it from he top also, i honestly cant say what way is easier, putting motors in isnt to hard

Yeah it's not going in the top without a hoist without a fight...it'll go through the bottom though quite nicely. Put it on a skid roller with the front end jacked up and roll it right under.
