Default horse power

just pick up a 98 civic hatch.
the motor inside is a d16y7 with just header and intake. right now i consider it slow. i dont want to swap the motor but i want more power what can i do??

also does running a chipped computer make a big difference??

You have a non-VTEC economy motor. There isn't anything you can do to get more power. You can bolt on all sorts of crap that will just make your car louder. The only option you have is at least a head swap. Look in the FAQ for a mini-me swap. That's just swapping a head/intake manifold from a D16Y8 to convert it to VTEC. After that, you can put together a homemade turbo kit and boost it. That's the only way you are going to get any power out of it without swapping to a B-series.

Head swap and you're still slow. Boost or swap. Look at section #4 in the FAQ's. A chiiped ECU on one of these is just wasting your money. This aint the F&F.

i'd swap in a K series with Toda ITB's. otherwise do some suspension and rims, then plan out a build

K-series are some of the most expensive swaps out there there right now. Definitely NOT as easy a swap as a B-series. Check out k20a.org for builds and parts lists.

As for the redline maybe you should ask your brother-in-law what he did?

thats all so true... thats why i was thinking of keeping the stock motor in so good on gas.

after reading up on the mini-me swap im getting some inspiration...natural that is.

on a scale of one to ten hows the difficulty level of the head swap??

also do i need a p2p ecu if i swap the heads??

and will i need to change my fuel control??

wanna rev past 9 grand, build the motor. the whole motor. and the fuel pump needs to be replaced as well. and clutch. stock EM1 fuel pump is good for 8500 with big cams. 8000 on a 65 shot of nitrous just for an example.

if gas is a concern, then dont do anything to the car....anything to make the car faster is gonna take more gas

so why does these type question come up here often? you can head swap, intake manifold swap, bolt ons, any kind of boost will give you more horsepower. why you need horsepower? Follow these steps and you will learn a lot. Search, rear, re-read, re search, read, validate, do
