Default Horrible sputtering...

So my car is sputtering and jumping like bad. I thought I had resolved my IACV problem a while ago, apparently not, I don't know what else to do. I know this description of the problem is very concise, but does anyone have a clue? The check engine light came on but did something very wierd. It began flashing. Any ideas??? Thanks

Check your spark plug wires for any cuts. I had the same problem.

x2. i don't think your IACV has anything to do with the sputtering, unless the car is dying.

Well, I took apart the TB and I am going to clean the IACV tomorrow. I have no way to check codes right now, as the car is taken apart. Is it really possible for the O2 sensor to fail in like 1 day though? I am just asking, I don't know too much about them.

Usually a blinking CEL is something more than a sensor starting to go bad. I had a blinking CEL when I blew my stock plugs with an MSD ignition, wires, and coil after about 3 miles. It started to misfire a whole shitload after that, I believe only 2/4 cylinders were firing (went to iridiums and was all good).

ANYWAY, check your codes is all I can suggest. IACV would be indicative of idle problems, not sputtering. An O2 sensor going bad (which means not dead) would not cause sputtering, only a loss of gas mileage since you'll start running rich. If it was completely dead, then yes, sputtering would be possible since the ECU would probably be overcompensating for engine safety.

I'd have to suspect ignition... possibly ignition coil?

A flashing cel on an obd2 vehicle is a misfire

can the ignition coil just go bad out of nowhere though? Seems like I would have noticed it gradually decreasing...I'll run the codes tomorrow though man.

This morning I reassembled the motor, refilled it with coolant and started it up. It hesitated for a minute than seemed to run fine. I drove it over to Autozone and got some new plugs and my buddy and I Seafoamed it. I put the new plugs in and the car is running fine now. The CEL has not come back on yet and there is no sputtering to it? The only difference in today and the day before is about 40 degrees in the temperature outside. I am hoping that is not what is messing it up, because I read that O2 sensors can fail sometimes when the climate changes rapidly to a much colder temperature.

Okay, so today the CEL came back on...so I hurried my butt to Autozone and ran the code scan on it. Sure enough, O2 sensor. So I bought one, and I got the socket too, since I haven't needed one yet until now. Putting it in tomorrow morning.

what year is your civic? Honda has extended warranty for 95, 96, 97 civics. anythhing emissions related is covered for 150,000 miles. I took my 96 hx in for a free o2 sensor, manifold/cat, egr valve because the CEL was on. I wish I had known that before I replaced my plugs & wires, cap & rotor.
