Icon2 horn does not work, clockspring has been replaced

alright here it goes...

background info...while installing an alarm, i took the entire dash and steering wheel off. after i put everything back together, i later realized the clockspring wasnt right. i was actually parking at the mall and heard the clockspring stretch and break...so i knew why my SRS light was on and the horn wasnt working.

i bought a new clockspring off ebay. now my only quam with this one is that it was listed as it came off a car with cruise control and i do not have cruise control as my car is a dx model. are all the clocksprings the same? or vehicle specific for with/without cruise control?

what i have done...
-i have tested the horn with direct power and it does work.

-i have checked fuses and all appear fine.

-i have tested for continuity between point A and B on the relay.

now, i tried checking for continuity between the plug that connects to the relay and the single wire plug that connects to the horn within the steering wheel and i was NOT able to achieve continuity. i believe this was an accurate test because now my suspected problematic clockspring could be the point where contact was lost.

so my questions...
-are clocksprings specific to vehicles with and without cruise control? i suspect no because my original clockspring has an unused plug, which im assuming is for cruise control.

-anything else i can test for?

thanks in advance for any input or discussion anyone can provide.

My 92-95 hatch had an extra unused plug for cruise control.

Yes clocksprings are model specific. When you go back to ebay to buy the correct one. Call honda and get the right part number. To make a long story short. You have the wrong clockspring. I went through this problem 2 weeks ago.

thank you for that answer. i guess exactly what i was looking for.

any idea why continuity would not be present through the clockspring? does that mean i also have a broken clockspring?

I hope that you held the horn button down while checking for continuity or otherwise it wouldnt have it and as a matter of fact the horn and the clockspring are not on the same circut. obiviously if it has a relay then the clockspring which is ground controled is on th controler side of it and the horn is on the controlled side of it. if you have a 4 pin relay then just jump the two pins that are on the controlled side and the horn should come on and then just make sure that you have two pins that have power. the only other thing that you can do is take the red lead of the multi meter and put on 12v of battery and then take black lead and put on the pin of relay that comes from the clockspring and when you hit the horn you should see a ground supplied and 12v on the display. if that is the case then the clock spring is doing its job
