Hood Latch Problem
I have a 1998 civic ex, and when i pull the hood latch on the inside of the car, the hood doesnt pop up, ill go out and try and pull on it, and it still wont pull up, but if i have someone sit int he car and pull on the latch, and then have me and another person go and pull real hard, we can get the hood to open. I was wondering if anyone has ever had problems like this before with their hoods...i alos now have prblem with the ood latch ont he interior of the car...the plastic peice broke so i need to use vice grips whenever iw ant to open my hood...im really looking for some help on this one, it would be greatly apreciated. especially because i have a nice long trip in like 2 days and i need to make sure their is oil in the car.

done that. its fairly cheap to get new one. installing takes alittle time (about an hour) cause you have to use the old one to pull the new one through. as far as opening it, try pulling harder on interior latch and a little oil on the latch under the hood won't hurt

well when i pull really hard on the latch, i guess since its like a small little square bar, in a square fitment, it sort of unsets itself and does nothing more...i pull as hardas i can to try and open it but now i feel like im just doing a hole lot of bad for the car

Re: (98civicdream)
i guess you are gonna have to open it the hard way
take some pliers to the front of the car and reach through the grill, probably gonna have to break part of the latch but pull on the cable unless you can get to the lever itself and move it sideways with them or a screwdriver. good luck

Re: (98civicdream)
maybe there is way to much slack in the line and it does not open the latch enough!! once the hood is open.. see if you can see any slack in the cable.. good luck. Dutchess County!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hahaha
