honda oil filter question
are all honda oil filters the same? i think i read there are only two versions. the ones for all the hondas pre 2001 and the smaller ones for the 2001 and up. someone correct me if im wrong. also, can some post up the part numbers for the american, canadian, and japanese filters? of course my dealer receipt shows 15400-P0H-305 and on the filter it says 15400-PT7-005. did i get the lame one? thanks all!

Re: honda oil filter question (deviant1)
All of the filters are the same except the new ones that fit RSX's and CRV's you can use them they give you alittle bit more oil pressure.

I believe there's a Prelude site that did a test of a bunch of different oil filters and I think it may have had the part numbers listed for Honda filters. Try a search for like 'oil filter test' or something. HTH.

The oil filters are different from 2001 and on except for the preludes, I have a 2k1 civic and I have to buy Honda filters because nobody else makes it. I had a 94 DX coupe and they are different sizes.

Re: honda oil filter question (deviant1)
Honda recently change the oil filter for civic. The new batch of oil filter are physically smaller in size but the socket opening size remain the same so it can be fitted without any mod. Not too sure about the part no, as I just installed into my car. Light blue in color and MADE IN JAPAN written on it, hope this helps.

Re: honda oil filter question (deviant1)
The difference is the manufacturer of the filter. Honda dosen't make them. Some are Bosch filters and the other is Filtech. There is no difference. How do I know? I am a factory trained Honda Tech. Believe me the quality of the Honda versions are better because they have to meet Honda specs. So don't just go out and buy any old filter from Auto Zone and think your getting the same quality. Honda filters contain teflon ingredients that help protect your engine and they can be used up to 7500 miles under normal driving conditions. You only have to change them at 3K miles if you DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!!! and you can't use the smaller filters from the RSX, CRV, and Civic those guys are idiots. At high rpms your risking blowing it up because it causes too much pressure. plus the plumbing isn' t the same. Jackasses.

My personal choice:
Purolator makes an oversized PureONE oil filter for 80's Honda's [PL24458] and a 'teacup' sized PureONE for 90's & up models [PL14459]. As far as I can tell, the construction is mechanically the same, except the PL24458 has a MUCH larger capacity than the PL14459.
