I was going 20mph in my '98 Honda Civic and I wanted to shift into 1st gear because I was going down hill, but when I pushed in the clutch and tried to shift into 1st gear, it wouldn't let me. The only way I was able to shift into 1st was to bring the speed down to like 5 or 10mph which I thought was really interesting. I was physically locked out of shifting into 1st gear just like I'm locked out of shifting into reverse if I'm already in a forward gear.. Though now that I think about it, I might have been able to shift into 1st gear had I double clutched it first.... I wasn't aware that transmissions even had this ability considering that I knew a guy who had a friend drive his Infiniti G20 and blow the engine because he shifted into 2nd gear going 90mph...
