Honda Civic Mods | Newbie starting out
Hey y'all. So, to not beat around the bush, just got myself a 94 honda civic hatchback. bought the car with 150k miles, and the vehicle was already partially riced. Had the usuals, such as cold air intake, new headers, wheels, coil overs, and thats about it. I haven't done much in the way of modding before, but I would certainly like to give it a try. But before I hop into the world and buy every cool mod with the title "HorsePower" printed on it, I figured I'd get hooked up to a forum and try to educate myself a bit. Did some research, and figured I'd go ahead and ask people what they would recommend. I use the car mostly for pizza delivery (dominos, if you must know), but certainly enjoy my get up and go. Don't need a car that can do a 10.0 1/4 mile, but definitely upgrading my hp would be nice. Any suggestions, such as turbo, exhaust, engine swap (the car currently has a d15b8)? One upgrade I have heard a lot about in particular is a head swap to vtech. What would be the head I would swap to, and how much hp could I ideally see gained? Is it worth? etc, I'm rambling at this point. Lemme know what you think. Budget isn't "necessarily" an issue, as I'm just in the planning stages right now. Thanks!!!

Thanks! The link pushed me to do some more research, and it looks like I'll probably just end up swapping the engine out for a d16z6 one of these days, since the car is already wired for it. Just gotta save up a bit. Thanks though.

Being a newb and the new owner of an old car with 150k miles and an unknown maintenance history I think you should start with maintenance and brake/tire/suspension upgrades first before you get in over your head with engine swaps and what not.
(How exactly is your car already wired for a d16z6? Do you have an si?)
Which coilovers exactly do you already have? (What are the spring rates?)
Which cold air intake and header do you have now?
What is your current wheel/tire size and name/condition of tires?
I am almost certain that most of your bushings/ball joints are shot to **** by now, so thats a good place to start, as well as upgrading the brakes, which are probably in need of changing anyways. This is pretty much where I'm at on my integra (same platform and mostly the same parts and concept)
I bought a pair of used front knuckles and new lower ball joints, new hubs, bearings and dropped them off at the machine shop and had them pressed in. Then I bought a pro parts usa big brake kit https://propartsusa.com/collections/...ke-upgrade-kit and ss brake lines and installed it all together with new oem upper and lower control arms/ball joints bushings and outer tie rods together. This plus new BC Racing coilovers and a fresh alignment and my car feels so much better now. So much more solid and phenomenal brakes for the money. I think for you to use that big brake kit you will need either si or integra knuckles. I plan to do the same to the rear sometime in the future, but my rear suspension and brakes are still in decent shape.

Here are some pics for my car.
Excuse the dominos sign, I'm a driver and was at work. And in responce to CandyRed, the engine swap is a long ways off. Been doing a bunch of mainanaince already (oil, fluids, valve cover gasket (it was leaking pretty bad), spark plugs in the near future). I assume the car is wired for vtech because that's what I've gathered from the forums, although I could totally be wrong. Coil overs... Don't know. Actually gonna look into that soon, as the car rides like ****. Don't know the cold intake brand, going to check that tomorrow. Back tires were just replaced, and front will be as well soon (but are currently ****). Brakes and everything are in excellent condition, but wouldn't be surprised if the bushings and ball joints were shot.
Also... what is this "B two oh block" you speak of? Link?
All tips and etc. are super appreciated, as I am still learning. Enjoying nerding out, but still merely a student.

Thats not a cold air intake...
When you do the spark plugs, be sure to get oem cap/rotor/wires/spark plugs and be sure to gap them correctly.
b20b/b20z = most of the time this comes out of the Honda CRV.

Dont see vtec solenoid in photo.
its better that you save money and bring the maintenance up to date, rather then thinking about motor swap.
at least start cleaning up the look of the car. Fast and furious front bumper, im not a fan of. But, if you like it then keep it. Paint to match..
get some wire loom and clean up the engine bay a bit.
keep it stock, keep it clean.
you going to need a couple grands if you going to consider engine swap..find out how much motors cost before thinking about it.

Well, at least it has Slips on it... It could have OG Walmart Spinners. Hell, besides the bumper, I like it.

You said you had a header? All I see in the pic is an OEM-looking manifold.
But this will be a good project!

Missing the rest of the body kit, you'll need to source that before you can do any engine work. Yes I'm being ****** serious. This is the tech section what you think?

Rice gang! I have purple tint and a black hood. I used to have possibly the worst wheels that I have ever seen on this when I bought it. I took them off so quick that I didn't even get a pic with them on it. Good project tho man, as others said, just clean it up and keep it stock until you do some research into swaps and/or forced induction.

Re: Honda Civic Mods | Newbie starting out
I dunno, kinda partial to the bumper. Might look into changing it, who knows. And yeah, definitely not a cold air intake. Think I just keep saying that. If I was to switch to a cold air intake, would it even be worth the hp gain for the cost? If so, any suggestions?

Re: Honda Civic Mods | Newbie starting out
nice wheels, they look nice and normal..
maybe you’re new to cars, but a junk yard is a good place to get little tid bits that you might break as you learn to tinker.
you should just drive it like normal, and keep the oil and coolant serviced properly.
keep a full size spare wheel and tire assembly in the car along with the correct tools to change a tire. you should get that stuff before you need it. or not..
but, if you must blow some trash paper, go buy a jack that will actually fit under your car easily (buy the extended warranty!!) and two jack stands from harbor freight, so you can jack your car up properly and with ease.
or you can take none of that advice, and take your car somewhere to have it worked on.
good luck man
