Default Honda Civic Acceleration Problems...

Hi,

I just recently bought a 1990 Honda Civic LX Sedan, 1.5liter, Automatic, 190K Miles...My question is in regards to its acceleration problem...The car runs overall wonderful...But what is happening is that it will sort of stumble or hesitate on acceleration when I depress the accelerator lightly...After a while it seems to sort of catch up with itself and it will be smooth...It does not stutter or hesitate however when at a cruising speed...Its VERY smooth then...I really notice it when say I am turning a corner at a good speed and have let off the gas to do so, then after the turn I put back my foot on the gas...That's when I really feel the hesitation or stuttering...Here is a list of the things I have changed since I bought it:

New plugs/gapped properly
New plug wires/rotor/distributor cap
New Fuel Filter
Adjusted Valve Lash to Honda Specs
Adjusted Ignition timing to Honda Specs
New Air Filter
Fresh Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w/30 Oil and Filter
New Stock Size Tires
Cleaned Out the The Throttle Body with Carb Cleaner

For the life of me, I just cant figure it out...I figured with all this stuff I did, one of them would help! lol...Oh btw it also passed smog well too...If anyone has ANY ideas I would LOVE to hear about them...Thanks alot!

Check the 02 sensor. It will probably be working if you test it with the car just sitting there running but make sure the wires didn't pull out of the plug and that the plug is in nice and tight. I had a similar problem and it was a bitch to figure out because I would only have a problem when I let off the gas or took a corner. What is was is when the engine shifts in the bay it pulls the wires just enough to not make contact for a second or so. I wasn't throwing a code either so that made it tough. Turned out one of the wires was coming out of the plug. It seems quite common for the wires to loosen. Make sure they're all nice and tight. Hope it helps.

Hey thanks, was wondering...Since I just had it smogged, IF the O2 sensor was kinda buggy would that show certain higher values on the smog certificate? If so, which ones would be on the high side?

if it stumbles like you are saying while it is being smogged it might affect the emissions but I don't know. It stumbles for such a short period of time I doubt it would cause any problems. If it's really loose though that could cause a problem, but if it was loose for long enough it would probably throw a code. Just check to make sure the wires are tight in the plug.

not if it's just loose for a second. It would have to be completely unplugged. Mine was like that for about 2 months, stumbling and hesitating and it never threw a code.
