Default honda cicvic

I own a 1999 honda civic. bought it when it had 185,000 miles on it and i recently clocked 20300 miles. Had no issues until today when the check engine light came on and the car revs up when accelerated but wont go over 30mph.
What could be the problem?

We're gonna need to know what the code is to be able to help. Get it checked, most parts stores will check it for free.

See the FAQ sticky at the top of the forum, in it you should find how to pull the CEL codes without the use of any scanner or hardware beyond a paperclip.
