Honda brake pads vs EBC Redstuff
What are some opinions on Factory honda brake pads vs EBC redstuff brake pads. I know EBC is really good but is it worth the extra money over factory honda brake pads. Which is better and which one is worth buying. Pros and cons kinda stuff.

With redstuff, I don't think they recommend using oem spec rear pads/shoes. Use Akebono or Performance Friction Carbon Metallic.

I will be doing daily driving, not track driving. I have a 98 civic 4dr with ls/vtec swap, makes about 190 hp. I don't do a lot of hard braking or anything, I just like to have fun sometimes and would like to have some decent stoping power. I want to keep the price under $100. I don't have deep pockets like we all want. Thanks for all the idea's btw, keep them coming please

I didn't really like EBC. I used the yellow stuff on my S2000 and I was semi-impressed...till the pads were fading a lot and then crumbled and came apart at Autobahn's CC's full course.
I think you might be ok with redstuff on the street, though. Might be a decent pad for the money. They're definitely cheap. A lot of track people don't like EBC at all. I know you weren't gonna track it...but I don't think I'd buy another set of EBC ever again.

I heard about EBC falling apart/wearing out when they first came onto the scene. Never wanted to risk even trying them. It seems nothing has changed over the years.

alright EBC is out of the question from what I've heard. Whats the battle between Akebono and Hawk, or is it just preference between the two.

Never liked Axxis. Lot's of fade and the pads didn't work well until they were warmed up. Stopping power was poor for me. Used them once. Scared the crap outta me when I had to make a sudden short stop. Never looked back.

Lol @ hawk being expensive. Tire rack is having a hawk sale right now. HPS street pads were super cheap to start with...now theyre even superer cheaper.
The only problem i have with hawk is the corrosive dust with track pads ...but I don't know if that applies to the HPS street pads. I dont think it does. My friend had a miata with like year old HPS dust and it came right off. He did have TE37s tho..and real wheels have much nicer/slicker powder coat.
They do dust a LOT, however. Especially compared to a ceramic pad. Good stopping, low price high dust. Stay on top of cleaning the wheels. Buy brake dust repellant.
Carbotech bobcats are really good street pads...I think they're somewhere around $200+ tho. Those are fairly low dust...and carbotech dust doesn't bond to wheels like hawk dust.

To be completely honest man, you should just get some cheap autozone duralast past. they will do just fine. My car made around 450whp and im still running stock EG brakes (drums in rear) with autozone pads. My cobalt has red stuff pads on them and I really wasnt impressed. They lasted 2 years before they crumbled.

What Hawk pads are you running? Were they $62 for all 4? I dont think there is a need for him to get anything more than Duralast or Wearever pads. Yes hawk pads are nice but for what hes doing, $20 pads will do the trick and be more than enough. Unless the OP decides to he wants to spend the extra money, there is no reason to go overkill.

no, they were like $60 for the fronts (drums on rear). but duralast brakes are trash after you ride on a pad thats far superior.

Lol I understand that but the guy is in a car that makes 150whp tops and daily drives car. He even said he wasnt hard on his brakes too. Hawks are awesome pads. no doubt. But an average person or even a person who is into "spirited driving" isnt going to be able to tell a difference.

for street use, i learned that the lifetime warranty on duralast pads are really amazing
not only do i still have half my pad life left after 40,000 miles of use,
my friend who works at autozone says as long as i dont have uneven wear, not down t metal, i can bring my old backs and replace them with new pads FREE
i never knew i could do that ...
