Holy long gears?
I just recently pruchased a 00 civic h/b cx manual, before that I had a 00 civic sedan manual, and a swear that my sedan shifted a lot sooner than my h/b. I shift out of 1st at 39 mph or so and out of 2nd and about 72 mph. Doesn't that seem a little tall? Is that good or bad?

Re: Holy long gears? (DemostheneZ)
damn homie... leave the dude alone... he doesnt know thats why hes asking... no it doesnt matter that the ex is vtec... it is a d series transmission so it will bolt right up to your cx... the ex has shorter gears that is why it will make a difference

Re: (JDMlyfestyle)
long gears are good for freeway driving.
the D16y7 has enough power to take you where you need to go.
39 MPH is redline in first
and 72 is redline in second.
why do you need to redline first and second?

I don't NEED to redline first and second. Have you ever redlined your car? Why did you do it?

CX, DX, LX have same gear ratios BUT
CX, DX hatch/coupe have 3.722 Final drive (slower acceleration)
DX, LX sedan has a 4.058 Final Drive (faster acceleration)

Re: Holy long gears? (bbcnet)
where's that picture that says i've lowered my iq because of this thread? some people should not post here. and if they were kidding, i'm sorry i didn't get the joke.
to answer the man's question: shorter gearing allows your car to achieve high rpms faster or reach your powerband quicker. shorter gearing also allows you to stay within your powerband easier.

thanks man, that's all I needed to know. But about this redline thing, say if the car redlines at 6750 rpms, what is the optimal rpm to shift at?
