hmm some help please....
are pre-1994 gsr motors also called b18c1? the guy who i bought my car from said its a 96 gsr and it says b18c1 on the block, but the valve cover was filed down bc he said the guy who had it before him did it...can anyone help me out here?

hahaha your right..i meant...i dont know if i believe that he got it out of a 96 gsr, bc it looks different then most gsr motors do...but that could be bc of the valve cover was filed down, the block still says b18c1...does that confirm it is 94+ or are all gsrs b18c1's?

Alright, let me get this straight so you bought a car and the owner says it has a 94+ b18c1 motor in it. You see that the valve cover has been shaved and want to confirm that it is definetly a 94+ motor. You know that the block is atleast a b18c1 due to the stamping near the tranny.
To identify the year of the motor or atleas the year of the head you have to look at the casting stamps above the exhaust ports or where the header flange meets the head. Here are some pictures to help you see where the stamps are and how to read the numbers.
