highest performing engine for del sol(question)
Hi everyone,
I used to have a del sol, I had to sell it, but I'm going to be purchasing one soon. This time w/ the full intention of building an engine and possibly a turbo set up. I just had a few questions to get my research started.
I am wondering what the best route to take to get the most hp & torque while still maintaining A/C & PS.
First and most obvious choice is a b16... Easy swap in, and can handle turbo.
B18c.?? Some kind of b18... More power to start from than the b16, but not sure on if ac/ps can still stay.
H22- probably best for NA, because turbo defintely is not fitting, but ac/ps is hard to do & costly.
If I plan on purchasing an engine, and building it, in your opinion what is the best set up? How much hp/tq for the 3 engines(and w/ or w/o turbo?) And also a price range for engine+upgraded cams etc?

Well the B16 is not a best choice for sure since they make no TQ. If you are going boost them a GSR or LS Vtec IMO is the best way to go. All motor a B20 Vtec or H2B even a B18C is a great choice but the B18C will not make as much TQ as a 2.0 or 2.2L. The GSR is a good over all motor to go with if you dont know if you want to boost or NA.

Have you checked the links in the FAQs sticky and the Hybrid forum? There's a lot of information to read if you want to make an informed decision. Otherwise, this thread will become just an opinion poll.

A couple years ago i turbo'd my vtec del sol, the one that came stock with the b16, and I made 320whp and 260tq on 10psi. Only mods were head studs, head gasket, gsr cams, and ethanol.

1. Figure out a budget
2. Decide on a realistic goal for the car and power goal
3. Research your options and the associated costs involved
4. Make up your mind as to which option gives you the best value for your dollar
Until you do a little leg work, you're only going to get a thread filled with opinions...and that isn't helpful
