Higher than usual at shifting
Hi, Im really new to the Honda world. I just bought a 94 A/T del sol. I used to own a 91 nissian se-r. Well on to the problem. I have a couple of small problems and Im solving them one at a time.
When Im driving the car it tends to shift gears at higher rpms. Not too high. It sounds like just higher than it should be. Ive been watching the mph. So around 25mph and 35mph for 2nd and 3rd gear. . I havnet looked at the actual rpms. Sorry Ive read on one thread that they said to change your O2 sensor. which I am skeptical about. Because doesnt that just measure your exhaust? I think the first step Im going to try tomorrow is change the tranny fluid. Now do I have to use Honda fluid or can I hit up autozone for dextron II? I dont think the tranny is going out but could be a possibility, which would suck to hell. Anyway anyone who might know whats going on, I could use the input. Nothing like talking to people who know what they are doing around hondas.

first off use honda fluid.
secondly my sisters 93 AT civic shifted at around 3200 out of first and then depending on throttle pressure from then on. it may sound high but remember hondas have no torque and need the rpm to keep momentum between shifts

O2 sensors also become weak over time and will hurt your fuel economy even if you aren't getting a CEL. Look on eBay for a Denso one, it's cheaper than Autozone.

Use either Honda ATF or a Honda-recommended ATF. For best results, drain and refill the ATF, and then drive the car and repeat (three times total would be best). Multiple drain and refills are necessary because a large fraction of the old ATF remains in the transmission after draining. The multiple drain and refills dilute out the old ATF.

Im going to try that o2 sensor off ebay. I dont think its slipping cause it doesnt slip out of gear while in gear. It shifts and stays in gear. Ive experienced slipping transmissions. You'll know it when it happens. I havnt changed the tranny fluid yet due to I havent had time so... I will get to that. Thanks for the replys.

Re: Higher than usual at shifting
i finally got around to changing my o2 sensor today. but the damn thing wont come off. I did the whole warm up the car, Even pb blasted the damn thing, (even though it will burn right off) bought a thing that connects it to my ratchet and I think I stripped it. Its not that bad, but if I keep going it will be stripped for good. Any suggestions? or is it take it to the mechanic time?
