Default high idle problems with my sohc engine.

okay when i start my car my idle goes up and down between 1 and 2 thousand rpms. this is what i did so far. i replaced my evap solenoid and my iat sensor. i also found out that my evap wire connector was connected in the wrong spot. it was connected to the idle air control valve. so i connected them to the right spots and now it the rpms go up and down not as bad as before. so is there anything else that i might be forgetting or need to be checked . my friend says that the fast idle thermo valve is bad or clogged. also he says to change my fuel filter cause that can be my problem.

Ive never heard of a fuel filter being a cause of a loping idle, its all IACV and FITV related. Have you tried reseting your ECU since plugging everything back up correctly?

how do you reset your ecu? just unplugging it? or what also how can you tell if your iac or fitv is bad or not working properly?

If your IACV is not working properly, it will cause your idle to lope between RPM's, failing to hold an actual Idle. I think FITV just has to do with warm-up idle, im not clear on that, being that ive never had to deal with the FITV in my past experiences, only IAC's.

To reset the ECU, you can do so in a number of ways, by either unplugging the battery for about 30 seconds, pulling the fuse in the engine bay that is for the ECU, or unplugging the ECU inside the car for a small period of time.

sounds to me that u have the infamous tps problem. this is an easily addressed problem. The tps is either riveted or secured to the throttle body with fasteners of some type. If it is riveted you will have to drill out the rivets and push screws of some type. Ok, the tps should be adjusted at .5v or very close to it when closed and 4.5v when wide open. The tps connector should have 3 wires. I believe the red one is the fluctuating wire. back probe into the red wire and make sure the tps connector remaiins plugged in. Ground the other lead of th multimeter u are using. turn the ignition on and check the reading. If the reading is not close to .5v when closed actually twist the tps until the desired reading it reached, then tighten it up. I believe this will take care of your problem but if it doesnt look at your iac. Hondas are also famous to having iac problems

I have a 99 ex and had the same problem, till today.
1. I took off the throttle body. Under the throttlebody, but attached, there is another piece secured by four 8mm bolts.

2. detach the bottom piece. It should have a flat surface with at gasket and two holes on top. (not sure if its true but I read to carefully remove the gasket cuz b12 will make it swell, thats what I did.)

3.there should also be some sensor on it. remove the sensor.

4. the metal piece protruding from where the sensor was removed should be loose. Mine was froze up so It didnt shut off the air like it was supposed to. If its not extremly easy to twist, spray it with carb cleaner or b12 ($4 at napa) until it loosens up.

5. Do everything again, but in reverse order.

My idle would go up to 3k on startup, back down to 2k then fluctuate from 1k-2k while in neutral. It would stay at 1600 rpms while in drive if I was stopped. If I gave it a very small amount of gas, it would almost die on me. very jumpy. Now, everything if fixed.

Hope this helps!!
