high horsepower d series setups?
hey there everyone, i was just curious to know if there are any d series engines in the 350whp range, and if so what it took to get there. im currently deciding wether i should do a swap or stay with the stock engine. i realize with a swap i would probably have more potential for power, but cost is a pretty big issue. in the end, id like to have about 350-400whp on pump gas with a fully built engine. also how big a bore can i get out of a d16? i dont mind too much lag, but i want to be able to hit full boost by 5500 with a turbo big enough to support 350+whp on pump gas.
I also have another question, how do the d series trannys hold up? i plan on taking my car to the track a couple of times a month, and i really dont feel like rebuilding my tranny after some track runs on slicks. oh by the way, the car is a 5th gen civic ex coupe
thanks for the help

http://www.jgenginedynamics.com/dynotests4 a couple of dynos from jg's site for turbo'd d-series. regardless of whether u stay with the d-series or swap to a b the cost to build an engine that makes that kinda power is not going to be cheap.

joo crazy man. pump gas meaning 91 octane? i think youd be spending a lot more than you think.......
if you actually think you need 400whp on the street you might want to try a b series. or try getting 300whp on the d series first and see how you like it.

Re: high horsepower d series setups? (Civic420)
thanks for all the replys guys, what i meant by pump gas is 93 since i live on the east coast,
and I do realize that it will cost a lot of money in order to build an engine capable of this power, i just wanted to know if it could be done and be practical / drivable on the street. i already have a daily driver, but i still want the car to be streetable.
also, anyone have any info on the d series trannys?

Have you ever driven a Honda with 300 whp??? That is more than plenty. I have a buddy pushing only 178 in his 89 hatch with a custom turbo, and his car pulls hard! 13.2 on huge slicks!
And my room mate's ITR is pushing about 300 now untuned, and going for 450 tuned with the new setup....it's too much IMO.
D series would be a better base to start from. The cost of the swap of a B series is how much a full build of the D series would cost. I've seen dyno charts of D series pushing more than enough power at like 14 lbs. Sleeves, rods, pistons, val;vetrain, and a nice turbo setup, and you're killing almost all B series cars that are boosted on the road

Re: high horsepower d series setups? (POS Hatchback)
check out this HT members car... (TurbodCX)
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=435805
he's at 350+ whp on pump gas with a d series engine... just basic bottome end build up, sleeves, rods, and pistons... Sleeves may not even be needed up untill after 300 whp according to guys at EXOSPEED and GE.
