I have read on HT that the obd1 gsr tranny vin# is not on the same place as the obd2 vin#? is this true? I heard someone say it but I didnt look to see where esle could the tranny vin# number be. I thought they were all in the same place??

I have bought a complete gsr swap and the vin# is missing off the tranny. There is a big chip of metal missing from the tranny bolt housing where I EXPECTED the vin# to be?? The serial number is still there. I havent yet to get this motor checked out to see if its stolen. but dude claims its legit. I have his address and everything from paypal and he is verified and I printed out the receipt paypal gave me. He had been slacking off on sending me the bill of sales. where is the best place to get the serial number check out. DMV? I am not trying to install this if its not legit...

OBD1 trannys don't have a VIN.

Have the highway patrol run the engine serial number.

Carfax needs a VIN. It can't do anything with an engine serial number.
