if your going to hone, or re-sleeve, or even deck the block...take it to a machine shop. you will get the best results rather than doing it yourself

if you make your own header and intake mani that's going to drastically change the characteristics of the airflow that the motor was originally designed to have. I would be very wary if it's running lean if your running the stock ECU.

I would personally take it to a shop to have all the machine work done to it because then you know it's done right. Saving a few bucks and honing it yourself might be fine, but you might mess it up and have improper clearances. Then guess what, your gonna have to get new oversize pistons and a whole rebuild. There are a lot of things involved in building a motor. You need to check bore size, piston to wall clearance, ring gap, bearing clearances..etc... and everything all has to be in spec for a motor to run properly.

I'm not trying to sound mean, it's just pistons and rods are a big investment and building a motor is a serious undertaking. If you've never honed a cylinder and the machine shop has honed thousands and has it down to an art, who do you think is gonna do a better job?
