Default HIDs flicker....Battery or Alternator???

My car has about 124,000 miles on it. Never replaced the alternator so it's still stock. My voltage reading is usually around 13.6 to 13.8 when I'm driving around but sometimes drops lower. But when car is off, the battery reads 12 volts. I also have a stereo with a powered 10 inch subwoofer and powered after market door and rear speakers. I've got aftermarket HIDs hooked up directly to the battery with relay. HIDs are still flickering from bright to dim. I'm guessing I'm not getting enough power to the ballast. Should I upgrade my battery to a stronger battery, or upgrade my alternator, or just upgrade both? Or maybe I just have a cheap HID kit.

sounds like a ballast is losing some power so id check that. bad alternator would make the car hard to start... same with battery. probably the hid kit.

yeah you need to get a cap for your sound sysytem. Also i hate to say this but it sounds like the ballast may be going out. This happened to me and i thought the ballast was not getting enough power but finally the ballast gave out and the lights would not even turn on.

Cool thanks guys! I ordered a newer HID kit. My current kit I have now, I'm not to happy with. I'll look into getting my alternator tested at the Honda dealer too.

does your kit have the high beam low beam HID? I had the same problem w/ flickering and my diode was not big enough. Put a bigger diode in and fixed the problem.
im using aftermarket bulbs with factory ballast from a Tl
