hidden costs for rear disk brakes

hidden costs for rear disk brakes
Used trailing arm assembly - $250
trailing arm bushing - $100
Brembo blanks - $60
Pads - $50
New hub/bearings - $200
Total - $660 and hope that the used caliper is good
I just can't see that this is worth it? Is there a better (cheaper) way?

Yeah, Find a wrecked integra from a junk yard and get mostly everything off of it.
Should be way cheaper

You are planning what most would not. I think most that would do this swap would just cheap out and get OEM replacement pads, and just turn the discs. I would not imagine most worrying about any bearings either.
However good thinking
Worth it? Well.... I guess it depends on where you want to go on the future

Re: hidden costs for rear disk brakes (civic-4-ges)
If you buy from import auto salvage, they guarantee everything to work except rotors & pads. Here is my link to rear disc swaps. It has a lot of good info, and all the prices of the materials I used. If you read everything, you will be very prepared for this swap...

unless your drums are busted and you regularly track your car (change pad compounds).
i spent:
100 - trailing arms and hubs
80 - replaced one caliper
40 - rotors
50 - pads
TOTAL 270
hubs feel fine, bushings are good, but i do want to eventually repalce the other old caliper.

Re: hidden costs for rear disk brakes (Mike C)
If you track your car often and have upgraded your front brakes, you might think about the fastbrake rear upgrade kit too. I noticed a considerable improvement in straight line braking after installing the kit.

could this have been due to a different rear pad compund? i find it hard to believe that a stock disc can be overworked... the rears don't really do that much.
also, bigger front brakes are FAR more important than getting rear discs. put your money where it matters the most

You don't need the trailing arms or bushings if your existing bushings are good. The disc brake hub assemblies will bolt to your stock trailing arms. New bearings aren't really necessary unless one is bad.

The fastbrake kit uses the same oem calipors (thus the same brakepads) (I'm running Bobcats) I didn't think they would make that much of a difference but by increasing the rear rotor size (and I did not adjust the brake ballance), it did make the rear brakes work more.

But the rear swap should not cost you any more than 350 with all good parts.
just my experience.
