Default HID VS. XENON Lights Help PLZ...

Hey guys,
Before you start calling me a noob and flame me for not searching for this topic, please read it first. I have a couple of questions on these bright lighting upgrades for the car. I searched H-T, and i couldnt find anything. I searched the web, and i got no clear answers.

My question is two part:
1. What is the diference between HID and XENON lights? If any? And if so, which one is better?

2. I own a 93 civic hatch, and i wanna upgrade my lighting. If you have any experience with any particular brand, please tell me about it... I curious to see which product is the best upgrade for my hatch...

And sorry if i posted this in the wrong forum, but I hope its in the right place. Thx, and in-depth feedback and/or reviews would be greatly appreciated. Along with some informative websites, if any... thx...

i believe HID are the whole kit giving you a very well lit path ahead of you and are very bright as oppose to the xenon lights which are just bulbs that look like HID's but are not and if not put on the right watt it will melt your harness. Correct me if im wrong..

Forget about the checp ebay ****, none of that cheap 10-20 dollar bulbs, either xenon or hid, they are rip offs. Im talking about the whole things, including a new shell/casing and bulbs. Like Subaru STI got HID lights, while M3 got Xenon, i just wanna know the difference and a good brand for my hatch... But albert your right knowing that the real stuff lights up the road, while the cheap **** just burns your ****. i mean i have the cheap things, and they are brighter then original ones and never had a problem, but they are just not bright like the real things. And as a fact the only reason the "cheap"/"ripoffs" are brighter than the original ones is because they just drain more energy. Standard Halogen bulbs take something like 35 watts, while the rip offs take up like 95 or so watts. Those may not be specific, and may vary on rip-off brand, but you get the point. While the "real" xenon or hid" takes only 35 or so watts, and is like a million times brighter....

Waiting for more responds, good start i guess...

The bulbs used for HID's are charged with xenon gas.

xenon and hid are the same thing. high intensity discharges. both uses d2s type of bulbs.

Automotive HIDs have xenon. So do theater projectors. There are other forms of metal halide lamps that use a gas other than xenon. The HIDs for street and parking lot lights use sodium.
