You didn't say you have a civic but I assume by your avitar you do

and all ek's 96-2000 use H4 bulb ,,,so no use shouldn't have to do anything diffrent
headlight hardware is all the same

ERAN is right i modded Audi H.I.D. ballast with DR2 bulb in my Scion Xb and it was blinding the dog **** out of the on-comming traffic ,so i took'em out ,your standard halogen light housing is NOT designed to use H.I.D.'s and what happens is it dispurses light everwhere!!which can actully be harfull to the eyes of the passersby

this is how it should be done

get some Osram Silverstars (not sylvania), Philips Vision Plus 50%, or GE Megalight 60%. You can get them from european sites. If I was at home, I'd snag you the links.

You guys would hate Jersey then. We just learn not to stare directly at the light like a bunch of deers crossing the road.

Here's another option... sell your H4 HID kit, go buy an OEM kit off ebaY, like the ones that are using D2R bulbs, or D2S bulbs, expect to pay around $200-$300 depending on the kit. Get the kit, then go buy some D2R Casper shields on eBay, they go for like $25 a pair. What that does is, it uses the D2R bulbs which are OEM HID bulbs, but you place that bulb into the casper shield, which is designed to bolt into an H4 headlamp housing, and it has the proper shielding to stop the beam from shining up into oncoming traffic. Its the best if you don't want to put projectors into your headlight.
