HID people i need your help...
Ok i have Phillips 5k HID and some weird stuff is going on
I have a 99 Ex, and the weird thing with my HIDs are that when u turn the lights on, and then start the car, HIDs dont turn on, if i turn the lights first, HIDs do turn on, but then i start the car, HIDs are off again? What could it possibly be? When the car is not on, i can turn HIDs no problem, so i dont think that they r defected, therefore im not sure where to start? Ground? Loose wires, or contact?

I was thinking the same thing, but yesterday I accidentally killed my car in traffic ( 
on me) and restarted it real fast... my HID's were on the whole time and they never missed a beat. I was like oops my lights were on when I started the car, but it didn't seem to affect anything.

That is a wiring issue. I assume you should have the power wire for the HID's going to the power wire for the normal lights.
If there is power when the car is off and power when the car is on that means you wired a "switch" where the ignition is switching the lights power off

Starting your car with the HID's on is not a big deal anyway considering they only suck 35w of power, instead of the traditional 55w from stock halogens.
Think of it as starting your car with the dome light on.

Occassionally normal behavior from some kits.
The bulb starter must re-engage after starting if the voltage drops low enough to let the bulb go out. Some ballasts and starters are not well designed and won't re-engage if the voltage drops low.
Do not turn on the kit until the car is started.

The initial startup of HID's is a much greater draw than the halogens. Standard practice is to install a 20 amp fuse for HID's when a 10 amp is sufficient for halogens. Mine blow 10 amp fuses.
It's like an air conditioner. The initial current draw is very high, but drops off a lot after starting. Although they draw 35W in steady state, extimates are as high as 100W when starting up for some kits.

my friends phillips kit occasionally does the same thing... but for some reason only the passenger side goes out... it may be semi-normal, but it might be wiring... just don't turn on your lights until you start the car...

i've got the same phillips kit installed, i have had no problems with it at all.. sounds like a wiring problem like these other peeps said.

I've installed many HID kits and half had the same problem you are talking about. When we replaced them it didn't occur anymore. Either the ballast cannot be reset, or wiring as everyone else pointed out. Maybe a short somewhere. Check all cables for conductivity. I would recommend insulating the wires, so you don't have an arch, that could be another possibility.
