Default HID need relay or not???

I have a 99 civic si. I just bought an HID kit and I will be installing it this thursday. I was wondering, will I need a relay switch. I have seen tutorials on youtube and some say hook up a relay and other say just plug and play. My kit said plug and play but I just want to be prepared if I have to hook up a relay. Thanks.

read the advertised amperage pull on those HID's.. anything over 20 amps should use a relay. However, I have never used a relay on my HID setups on other cars, and the wires we never hot or anything.

I've been running an HID kit on my car without the relay stuff for about 2 years now. I guess it might depend on the kit though.

hid's have an initial spike when they start up, but after that they draw much less amperage in comparison to a stock halogen. even with the spike its unlikely you will blow the headlight fuse. relay's are a good idea though, and they do help remove radio interference which hids sometimes cause.

I almost bought some hids off ebay they were only like 60 bucks, but now Im glad I didnt. I bought thses ones for 98 bucks and they come with lifetime warranty.

Yeah mine are only one beam LOW. Usually with that type you lose your highs. But hey who needs highs when your lows are that bright...LoL.

I have 6000k. I bought them about 2 yrs ago back when they were $180. The install is very easy! Here's a pic. They made a pretty good difference and look cool too. I chose 6000k because they emit more light than higher temp ones and don't attract cops.

so between 6K to 12K, which are going to be more worth while, if i do not desire "blue" but more functionality or brightness?

Depends where you live, and how picky the police are, up here in canada police see a nice 12 BLUE light and its bright and not aimed properly your screwed, if you have between 6-10 ish K, then you should be fine, the key is to have them pointed properly and not off into other peoples vision.

12,000K plug-and-play HID kit in an unmodified '99-00 Civic headlamp housing is a downgrade from the stock H4 halogens, not an upgrade.

A 4300K OEM projector retrofit would be an upgrade.

No amount of aiming is going to reduce the glare and scatter caused by the OE reflector housing. A projector retrofit is the only proper way to install HIDs.

get either 4k or 6k. 4k is pretty much COMPLETELY white, while 6k is mostly white with just a slight hint of blue. I have 6k as you can see in the pictures. But like targa said, a retrofit is the best way to take full advantage of an HID kit.

Don't understand the light thing. So what we be a good idea for an eg hatch? Stock is not bright enough, and I'm tired of the yellowish color. Any suggestions?
