Default hid ballast and bulb question......

recently some fockers stole one of my hid bulbs and one ballast but left the other one there....i was wondering if i can use any ballast to replace the stolen one to function the same as the original ballst or would i need to buy the same type of ballast that came with the hid kit...i heard that u cant do it that it has to be the same ballast that comes with the kit,is this true or can i just use any ballast and just get the hid bulb i need to replace the one that was stolen???

i think the color shift is primarily showing the bulbs age. i had 2 year old d2s bulbs. they turned green, blue, then orangish then white. strange huh? i replaced them with brand spanking new ones. and it goes from blue orang hugh white almost instantly.

but again like replacing bulbs. if you do one side, do the other at the same time. go on ebay and sell your remaining equipment. then buy anothe rset. do it right, not half ***. or half-half

Most any other ballast should work fine. I have one lexus one and one infiniti. As long as the bulbs are similar in age you should be fine. You may want to check, but I think most run at 35 watts.

yea, a ballast is a ballast, they all do the same job. why do people pay more to have a ballast wiht "bmw" stamped on it? just bling factor. but it will do the same job. again if the bulbs are changed at the same time, or they are the same age... it will give off the same light after warming up.

all hid taht i know of run at 35 watts. but can pull up to 180 watts during initial startup until the bulbs are at operational temperature.
