Hey people I really need help on my engine
So its been a while now ever since mysr swapped ek was stolen this time around last year. I bought another civic now and redid all the gaskets and resurfaced the head, d16y7. Now I assembled the engine but my car back fires alot. My battery is dead so I cant really tell if it has starting probs since I use jump wires to start it till friday(payday).
1996 civic hb d16y7
So my prob is wen I try to start it, it turns good but like the second or third crank it like stops as if it gets stukk. The first 5 times it started it would shut off in like 30 seconds. Also I placed my hand over the throttle body and it shut off.
after those five times, I started it but it was back firing alot and was shakin alot. I would lightly step on the gas and the rpm would bounce on 2k. It also doesnt feel strong wen I rev it, it loses power like on 4k rpm. (hesitates revvin over 4).
Wat can my problem be?
A leak?
Timing?
This suks.
Please someone help.

if your not sure how to do timing then don't attempt it as you could blow your motor up first try... seek out a local who has knowledge on it or at least buy a haynes manual and read the entire section before you attempt it.
Essentially after removing the vc. and cam plate...you find tdc on cyl.1 loosen the timing belt tensioner slip the timing belt off and adjust the cam by the tooth.... there will be a mark on the cam gear that says up(some models have diff marks so don't quote me on that one entirely) ... once finished reverse the steps

yeah it sounds like timing or your valves are off. I dont know how much experience you have with cars, but if you get a mechanics stethiscope start the car and touch it to one of the bolts on the valve cover, you can actually hear the the valve lifters and if they are out of adjustment. If so get yourself some feeler gauges and adjust your valves. Or take it to a shop and have them adjust them. If that doesnt fix your problem, check your timing.

Do you have any CEL? Adjusting the valve not hard to do. If you have the service manual, it will tell how-tos adjust the valve or not take it to a shop. Might charge you high price. You rebuild the whole engine of just the Engine block?

Sounds like your timing belt is on wrong. Line up all timing marks and recheck that they line up before you do anything else.
