Default hey guys, im new to the honda game

I have and am still int he progress of building a DSM but im sure everone knows they arent much for reliability/gas mileage haha

I love boost, (after driving a DSM forever) Im very fond of turbos. Im going to be getten a Del Sol Si soon(for a dailydriver) and i wanna get a little more nut out of it. Ive weighed the possibilities of swaps and that was what i thought of at first but i could graveyeard a turbo for really cheap(seeing as i have TONS of turbo stuff laying around including stock TD04H 14b stock DSm turbos)

my big question is reliability, will the stock internals of an NA motor be able to handle the boost? dont i need to like sleeve the block around the cylinders?

thanks a bunch guys!(sorry if anything i said was dumb its my first post)

wow

you need to do a lot more research before you attempt to do anything

but if you get a Del sol SI, that thing comes with a D16Z6
best sohc engine to boost

you should be fine with about 7-8 pounds of boost

should be able to get it to about 15 if properly tuned, on stock internal

and please don't forget to get a good fuel management

you should go in the FI forum, just sit back and read everything you see for about a month or two, before you start anything

first of all thank you for the input. you did answer my primary question.

I do know quite abit from building my DSM, of course fuel management will be a nessecity.

i do have a wideband O2 and uberdata so tuning will be a blast..heh

im just scared of boosting a NA cause the internals are much weaker but if you think 7-8 is safe thats what i was plannin on doing.

thsnka a bunch

http://www.homemadeturbo.com/ is the best site I've found for this type of project. Tons of info.

and yah it should be ok with 7-8 psi on stock internals. if you tune it well it will last a long time.

7-8 psi sounds good on stock internals. them when you get bored, the build up your internals and bring that psi a little hehe

Not only this, but make sure you get it tuned and you're golden.

If you already have the experience of knowing how little money can get you power with a DSM, you will probably be a bit disappointed in the Honda world. You already have a car with power, and the del sol is your daily driver. Why not just make it more fun around the block, more fun to work and back.

Work on the suspension and make the car more of a go-kart and leave the engine mostly unmolested.

That's just my opinion.

if your getting a del sol for a daily driver, but you want a little bit more than just a "daily driver" i recommend just running all motor, no nos, turbo, none of that. if anything just beef up the internals maybe a exhaust.

Well i plan on doing suspension too, but i just want it a little bit snappier. I have soo much stuff so it would be pretty cheap to build a graveyard setup.(BOVs, turbos, intercoolers etc...) as far as gas mileage if im runnign 5 PSi around town its really not gonna hurt it that bad it would still be 7-10 MPG better than my DSM! lol

You don't get shitty gas mileage for going turbo.

You get shitty gas mileage for being a ******* ricer and hitting boost in every gear every day. If you drive proper and stay out of boost [which you should if you are driving normal] you'll be fine with MPG.

I would suggest turbo'ing the SOHC as well. If you already have turbos and bov's laying around that's good. You can do a a very cheap setup with the hf manifold, 14b, 1g dsm bov, etc... then use a SMIC from a DSM too. You probably have most of those parts laying around. That'll save you money.

I'd suggest running Uberdata since its free and your car would be fairly quick for less than a $1,000.

Anyways, Welcome to the Honda world

lol

i do have 2 SMICs, 2 THO5H 14Bs, at least 2 DSM BOVS i got tons of **** haha

thank you and anymore input would be great!

yea a turbo in the D16 would prolly be similar gas mileage to like a bigger motor in the del

unalike what someone else stated, its actually better to turbo the non-vtec motor, but u seem like u hav most of the stuff you need to do it...cust find a good fabricator that can make an adapter plate to mount the turbo to a stock exhaust mani and do ur piping and ur pretty much home free. but like most mentioned the tuning is really really important.... local guy has a non vtec d16 that he runs 15psi w/ the 1st gen turbo, modified stock mani, custom piping, my old h22 injectors, 1st gen blow off valve, w/ a cartech fmu...drives daily been together 2 years and counting...fast as...f....

thank you, i noticed the stock manifold looks good a few minutes ago haha

we have a $400 wideband and a laptop with uberdata so tuning should be a blast!
