Default Here is a ? that might stump you.......

Can bad piston rings cause a pressure surge?? The motor that I am getting has a erratic idle that goes from 1500 to 2000 and the builder of the motor says that it could be the piston rings that aren't seated right. Can that happen????????? Is that possible? If this makes no sense lemme know...I will be sober in the morneing...........Happy New Years.
EDIT: It is a B20/GSR.....with intake headers and exhaust...

Are you throwing any codes?
It could be your IACV.

Does it idle like that all the time? Just when it's cold? Just when it's warm?

check your coolant level too... that is a VERY common cause of surging idle in honda's...

Check the radiator level... and the resivior... but it's usually when it's down in the radiator.

I don't think rings would cause anything like that... I can ask a guy I work with tomorrow... he may know.

Wo, didn't mean to offend you.

How many miles does it have, and how was the engine broken in?
