always wanted a EK hatch, now that i got the money, , im looking. im lookin for a 99 or 00', but i also see a lot of 96-' with the front ends. any diff between these years(Pros/Cons)?? good amount to pay for an EK? need a car. help with the faqs!!! thanks

front end, taillights, hvac controls, that's really the major differences, and of course 96-98 is obd2a and 99-00 is obd2b.

good one...plus for the interior, the climate controls are electronically controlled vs the cable from the 96-98.

plus, the 96-98 looks better with the jdm civic type r lip. but ofcourse, the 99-00 looks way better stock...

just find a 96-98 for cheap....if ya want the 99 just swap tails and front end, swapping air controls is somewhat a pain but not just a big deal

thanks for gettin my back lol, but yea i already knew those diff, plus 96 doesnt have a map light nor the handle in the back to pop the hatch. i just dont know if i should get a 96 and do a 00 conversion or spend more for a 99/00. frist car, worked threw hell for it, dont know what to buy!!!

look for one with a sunroof they are rare but boy do they look good. i paid 3000 for a 96 with 109,000 miles in virginia. spent a couple g's in it and solfd it for 5500. now the guy wants 7,000 for it and hasnt done anything to it. good luck i want mine back now i have an EG sure you dont want one of those???

no thanx i definitly want an EK. and by the way, no US-spec hatches came with a sunroof 96-00. i know some did in the UK/Canada and in the islands. US only has dinky DX and CX . Let me know people what good price ranges are for which years, and if u know of anybody selling!

there are too us spec ones with sunroofs but they are hard to find maybe one on autotrader every couple of months. good luck

are you sure HATCHBACKS came with it? i highly doubt in the US, only one i have seen was a guy get a Si sunroof and install it on. took time/money. but not from the factory. hatches, not coupes im talking about

i think i saw one in the marketplace but located in MN for $3000 or something...in red...but has missing sideskirts and a few dings and dents all over the body...98 civic hatch i think...

im sorry but im pretty sure i know what im talking about when the ONLY USDM Spec civics from 1996-2000 WITH sunroofs were the Civic Si (Coupe-99-00) absolutely no civic hatchbacks had sunroofs from these years. unless you did one your own by getting a civic Si sunroof panel and welding everything possible (yes it has been done, there is a tan one down by me but he did it himself and one selling on HT for 7500 in SoCal with red GT3's) theres the history!!! lol

Confirmed. NO HATCHBACKS in 96-00 came with sunroofs. Any you see on autotrader are from canada or they were an aftermarket job. si's, ex coupes, lx, and some hx's came with them.

i would get one with an engine swap already or a turbo already installed or something. then u already start out fast and its nice. i get pissed cause i paid 5g's for my ek hatch at a dealer and i love it but i see ek's with b-series in the paper all the time for the same i paid or less.

Don't forget to also factor in the fact that a 99-00 will probably also have a higher resale value when it comes time to sell it.

Word, you don't have to use ex stuff. Aftermarket sunroofs are cool. If you do get one spend good money for a quality install. Install and equipment is very important in a sunroof because it's a permanent deal and expensive to fix.

I prefer the 99-00. Minor differences, better resale for example. I had a 97 hatch for a while and I knew the differences then. But the 99-00 grew on me and I sold my 97 to get a 2000.

Don't buy a modded car unless you know a lot about cars and can check to see if the car was babied. Even then I wouldn't buy a modded car. 99% of people who fix up cars like a racecar, drive them like a racecar. Thus beating up the car. Start from stock, this will give you time to make it your car, not someone elses.

but i'm biased.

most of the differences have already been posted.

it basically comes down to which front end you want and if you care at all about the a/c stuff. the electronic climate control is obviously better than the manual one but the 96-98 front is just too much sexier.

i got a 98, in yellow.. you want it pm me, i got disk brakes and si wheels sittin in the garage for it, o and power windows, make me a offer. it has an si radio, typer shift boot, ****, amber bulbs, full tegie interior, ctr grill, black hood, full custon exaust. jdm fenders with side markers, and its getting vtec, soo pm lol

i would definatly get the 99-00........ i am currntly in the proccess of swapping front ends on my 96 ........................ now i want the climate control............................ then the rear hatch handle......................... i would spend the money on the newer model worth it
