Default HELP! Water in my trunk!

after a couple days of rain, there was like a huge puddle in my trunk well where the spare tires goes. I tried sensing where the water could be coming from but i cant find anything. The only thing is the Right rear tail light.it has some condensation in it so could that be the cause or could it be leaking from somewhere else? My whole carpet was wet. Thanks in advance!

oh yeah its a 96 civic dx

Get someone you really trust and get in trunk and let them hose it down good and use flashlight to look for light.
DO NOT use drop light. You might light up yourself.

since tracing where the leak is coming from is so hard you should drill a couple holes wherever the water collects, in your case your spare tire well. works darn good....

My dad was telling me to put a big piece of cardboard in there and just start wetting the trunk and see where the cardboard gets wet and work from there.

i did cardboard earlier today, and it seems that its coming from both tail lights and leaking down to the bottom, cause the board was soaked from the left and the right.

I think so Megapower. My 2000 civic hatch did it too. I waited for rain, and had everything in the back pulled out and I traced the water leakage using my flashlight. I was rear ended once though so that might have been the culprit.
I used JB weld in all of the cracks in the corners, and tightened my tail lights to snug, and it hasn't come back yet.

If it's your tail lights dood search here on H-T for a thread were dood makes homemade tail light gaskets. It's a Great post, but I don't have time to search.

Good Luck.

yeah it gets super annoying, but i think its coming from both tail lights and leaks all the way to the bottom?

Ive had this problem and ive replaced the taillight gaskets and the trunk weatherstrip because it was ripped. But no luck, ive narrowed it down to the rear air vents behind the bumper. The seals on those things were completely toast and pulling easily away from the body. I just siliconed around the edges today, hopefully shouldnt have a problem now. Ill keep you posted if it makes any difference.

I dunno, it was pretty moist around there and the seal was next to useless...no harm in spending a couple of bucks on silcone IMHO.

It can also be caused by (if applicable) the sunroof drain. Make sure the hose is still attached and in good shape.

I gutted my hatch on my 00 EK and redid the gaskets on both tail lights and the air vents. I cleaned the area inside and outside the air vents. I bought some 3 inch wide weather strip from Home Depot and cut out fresh striping. Then slathered silicone on inside and outside like it was a bathtub. Has not leaked since. The main culprit was the top of the air vents. I'll try to take pics, I haven't got around to putting together my rear interior yet so I have full view of the vents.

Good Luck!

Im not sure where the sunroof drians go but im with a1320addict with this one it may be the problem may not! I had a integra that the drains were so clogged up when it rained my whole car was soaked no lie when i hit the breaks water just comes pouring from the headliner.

Isnt there a water release hole already by the spare tire?
