Default Help! Water leaking from timing covers

So I think either my water pump just gave out, or maybe a gasket failed? Car started making a belt squealing noise while I'm driving down the road. Get to work and pop the hood. Water/coolant leaking from the timing belt covers.

Any ideas before I tear into it tonight?

Sounds like its time to dig in, pull the covers and figure out the issue.

Yeah IDK why I posted lol. I've pretty much figured the water pump took a dump on the way to work. The temp gauge was reading ok though. How accurate are the temp gauges on these things?

I'll be replacing pretty much everything on that side of the motor.

Water pump more then likely started leaking. Might as well stop by the parts store on the way home and get a wp and timing belt. Gonna have to take it off, might as well replace it. Good luck! Hope this isn't your first go at it. Might take a while especially if you run into problems getting the crank pulley off. Otherwise... if you need to drive to work tomorrow, keep toping off your coolant and drive it till you have a weekend to work on it.

if u have trouble getting that crank pulley off text me at 8138024422 ill send you some pics of a tool that i made out of plumbing piping (from home depot) made to hold your crank inplace so you can break it loose. that is if you dont have the tool thats made for it.

Oh yay, this sounds like it's going to be fun.

This will be my first time, and I am doing this in a shop with lots of tools so hopefully it won't be too bad. I'm borrowing my dad's car until I can get it fixed.

well take your time and make sure everything is right. and like nonvtec92 said since you gotta remove the timing belt you might as well replace it to be on the safe side. i was doing my timing a while back without taking off the belt completely and when i was putting it back on it snapped so im kinda glad it snapped then and not on the road. you never know when the belt can snap so just replace it. also since youve gotta take belt off why dont you replace oil pump, tensioners, pulley, gaskets etc u get the point... so you dont gotta go back and do it later. thats just what i would do to be on the safe side. good luck bro

I'm purchasing a timing belt kit from NAPA that has both oil seals, timing belt, tensioner and water pump all in one. A friend ordered it for me so I could get a better deal since he knew someone there. Whole kit for $112. I think having him help me, plus the air tools and we should have it completed in no time. He's done this before.

I think (and hope) that the oil pump will be ok for a while. I plan on changing it before I go turbo, but that won't be for a few more months at least.

Two seconds and an impact gun and it zipped right off.

I had a friend help me, and he has done this before. We got it all together and the car runs. Unfortunately it hesitates really badly, especially when you try and give it more gas. I figure the timing is off and have spent the best part of the last 20 minutes trying to look up where it should be and the exact procedure to set it...with no luck. Any tips?

Edit: Just found how to check it. The timing is way off. Even with it advanced all the way, it still only lines up with TDC. It won't advance all the way over to the other three lines. So looks like we're going to have to re-do this tomorrow night. Yipee.
