Default HELP w/ Motor Swap

dont know if this is the right forum, so please dont be upset or please feel free to re-direct me to the right one. anyways, i have a 1996 civic coupe and i want to swap a b16 or a b18, still deciding on either going with a b16turbo, or b18, and maybe, maybe saving money to boost it. ideas, suggestions will be great. anyways, i would like some assistance with what i need EXACTLY for the swap. everything that will get me running. shift linkage?, axles(year, car, model?) thanks for the assistance ht members.

you'll need, axles, mounts, tranny (if the motor is just a longblock), shift linkage. is your car a ex? im not sure if your car is prewired for vtec but i think thats all you need.

i recommend going to hmotorsonline.com for motors, they can't be beat

go with the b18c1 . if i was you thugh i would go with a built LS with a b16 head . that is mad power . then if you want to just turbo that later and it will be quicker than GSR turbo or b16 turbo .

a fully built LSVTEC is pretty expensive but if u got the money then go for it BUT if u want more power go wit a B20vtec...my friend has a stock B20vtec turbocharged and it scratchs in 2nd and the tires are still spinnin and scratchs in 3rd also..MADD POWER

hmm, dont really know about doing the lsvtec or b20vtec, heard it was a pretty complicated motor to work with. heard that there is a lot of maintaining to be done, how about a h22 with turbo? think its too heavy?

If youre going to turbo it you might as well buy an ls and save your money because you'll end up with the same end product.

Do you even know how much heavier an h22 is compared to a B series? but thats the last of your worries. You should be more worried at the fact that a h22 is a shitty platform to use for a turbo car.

Do some research. I must admit im not a turbo guy myself but you dont seem to know what youre getting yourself into. You seem to be more concerned in having a faster engine than your buddies or some prelude guy on the road. How fast you can make an engine depends on how much money you have. How fast a ls motor on boost goes depends on how much internal work youre willing to do and how much boost you can run safely. Theres no solid hp number for an ls turbo. You can be doing 200whp+, 250whp+, etc. It all depends how much internal work youre willing to do and how much money you have. Also youre going to do an ls turbo because I said so? Many people might disagree with me, its just my preference.

not going to do it cause you say so, yeah, your right with preference, but i am going to do some research, its an idea. who knows it might be my preference, you never know, its all trial and error, actuall i do know what i am getting into, with motor swaps, not really, but i want to learn, i learned with my sohc turbo, boosted too much so i swapped the whole motor out myself.. pretty interesting story, i know you dont have time, but hey, i really appreciate the ideas, and suggestions.

Im not trying to be an ***. Sorry if it comes out that way. Youre definately going to need to do research.

youre going to need to know...

- How much is my budget
- How much am I going to spend on a swap ( + install )
- What levels of boost am I looking for
- What kind of turbo setup is good for the levels of boost I want
- What internal work am I going to need to do to get to the level of boost I want
- Youre going to need new brake and rotor setup because your stock ones are going to go on the first day you drive.
- Whos going to install my turbo setup.
- + Extra boost Goodies youre going to need to tune your setup properly.
- Dyno time (usually if you get a shop to do the work they incude this in the total)
- + Extra money incase you need to do repairs.

Theres also plenty of factors Ive forgotten to mention.

why would you want to go to a b18 later if you have a b16? everyone bags on the b16 so much...

like pdm said, check your budget first. thats most important. there are a numerous amount of routes to go. turbo or not. h22 i dont recommend to turbo. i have a b16 turbo setup and i do not have one complaint about it. im more than satisfied with the route i went, and im not close to being finished, and my car moves like you wouldnt believe. whatever you choose, good luck.

You'll need:

Full Swap Changeover
99 Si Rear Tranny Mount Bracket
99 Si AC Bracket
99 Si Driver Side Mount Bracket
B Series Hydro Shift Linkage

You can reuse your current harness and just add and change a few things here and there (depends if the new motor is OBD I or II).

BTW I recommend a B18C if you have the money. Even if you cant turbo it right away...

You'd need this is addition to your stock mounts.

99 Si Rear Tranny Mount Bracket (Included if you get the full B16 swap)
99 Si AC Bracket
99 Si Driver Side Mount Bracket (Included if you get the full B16 swap)
99 Si Front Tranny Bracket (Included if you get the full b16 swap)
