HELP Vtec is on at ALL times. Getting horrible gas mileage
Im sure there is a thread out there but i could not find it.I hooked my 95 civic with a gsr swap to the scanner and it indicated that my vtec oil pressure switch was on and had oil pressure while the car was off.
Checked switch and had major resistance. Changed the switch and still have resistance. Attempted to check wiring and it seems all right. Reallyhave no other options.
Anyone out there know how the vtec switch is suppose to function cause i cannot get a grasp on it. Thanks

If you cant provide proof as to why you suspect its the solenoid then don't post at all.
Check your wiring better, check for a short on the wire. If it has high resistance then that means its either slightly cut or shorting some were. what trim of civic? ex/dx/vx/cx? Who did the wiring? Did this just happen? Just look over everything better. -ejoner

Also, note that just because the VTEC pressure switch is stuck does not necessarily indicate that your VTEC is constantly engaged.

True ill check over the wiring again with my mechanic.
its a 95 civic ex. I've noticed the problem for a while now, just kinda figured with this kind of engine your not really gna get good mileage til someone who had the same swap as me told me they get great mileage. Been like this since the swap
ive changed the solenoid already and it doesnt solve the problem
This might be unrelated but when i am at low rpm's i will get horrible mileage like if my gas needle is on E it will go down all the way past in a hurry, although if i am shifting past 4500 the gas needle will increase like im filling up.
I wna get this fixed cause gas in cali is f'in expensive now. thanks for you help i think i will need a lil more to solve this one quick.

oh and to add to the last post, when the two solenoids were on the car i tested them and they tested as stuck open.
When i pulled the one and installed the other, the one i pulled off tested fine. soo it seems as though it could be sumthing else...

Why does everyone on ht try to make a pissing match of everything. I hit the I instead of the O and then i guess im dumb and didnt know it was oi instead of io so my whole input is flawed? This was the same problem with my gsr and i got a new solenoid and it was fixed. Happy now?
