HELP... VTEC
I HAD A B18C IN MY CIVIC AND WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY HEAD SO I HAD A B16A2 HEAD SITTING HERE. AND EVERY ONE TOLD ME I CAN JUST TAKE IT AND PUT IT ON MY GSR BLOCK SO I DID BECAUSE THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING WITH THE GSR HEAD. I USED A NEW GSR HEAD GASKET AND THE GSR TIMING BELT. I GOT THE JOB DONE AND TOOK THE CAR AROUND THE BLOCK TO SEE HOW IT RUNS AND IT RUNS GOOD BUT VTEC WONT KICK IN FOR SOME REASON. I TOOK IT ON THE HIGHWAY AND DID A 3RD DROP AND WHEN THE CAR GETS TO 6000 RPM'S YOU CAN HERE THE MOTOR MAKING A LOUD CLICKING NOISE LIKE THE PIN'S THAT LOCK IN FOR VTEC TO WORK WAS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING VERY FAST. AND YOU CAN NOT HEAR VTEC ENGAGE. WHEN I HAD THE GSR HEAD ON VTEC WAS LOUD AS HELL WHEN IT ENGAGED. SO I NEED HELP TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THIS HEAD IS DOING OR WAS THERE SOMETHING MORE I NEEDED TO DO WHEN I JUST PUT THE B16 HEAD ON THE B18 BLOCK. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAD OR KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.

Re: HELP... VTEC
sorry man i dont know much about the gsr or b16 but just a guess arent you suppose to run the b16 ecu when you run the b16 head on a gsr block. check your wiring maybe you have a loose ground next to your thermostat. check your oil pressure too. and check your selonoid. and make sure your car is up to temp too. hope you find out soon. post it up when you figure out what caused this.

Re: HELP... VTEC
Have you tried cleaning the vtec solenoid? Is everything wired correctly? (VTEC solenoid and VTEC Pressure switch). The mechanical clicking noise is not a good sign... You need to check your oil pressure

Re: HELP... VTEC
the only thing i could think of to do just to "check" would be to take the head off and take the rocker arm assembly out and check all of it see if you can see any debree or any signs of damage or anything at all, make sure all the oil passage ways are not blocked
