help! tranny noise
i'll make it brief.
jdm b18c spec r tranny. when I shift in 1st and the clutch is in, everything is fine. when i start to gas it and let go of the tranny, i hear a light clunk clunk clunk sound that goes away once i am past 5 mph. it only happens in 1st gear and only when i'm going slow or starting from a stop. any ideas?
everything functions totally fine, just that noise kinda bugs me..it's kinda soft, but loud enough so that i can hear it if i turn off my music and listen to the car carefully.

actually, i've had the tranny for about 3 months now. this chatter doesn't sound like anything bad as of right now, but if it's potential, i would want to fix it before something bad happens.

Have you checked your motor mounts? If it's only happening when you're taking off from a stop, you motor might be tilting back, tapping metal on metal, giving you the "clunking" sound.

Re: help! tranny noise (all stock)
ok, my diagnosis...
when i am at a stop on level ground, i slowly let go of the clutch, letting it engage w/o any gas. i hear a clunking noise. throwout or release bearings? anyone confirm this who has better expertise than me?
btw, when i do this, the clunking noise is quite loud.

Ok, I got another tranny question. I can't use 2nd and fifth gears because when I put in in those gears, it'll kick out of gear. Can someone give me some ideas why? Thanks.

Re: help! tranny noise (cvcc)
check your tranny fluid level.
*edit - i know someone has to have this problem before...or is it just normal to have the tranny engage like this? it's really a soft sound...just loud when i almost stall it engaging it...*

Then I would suggest getting your flywheel resurfaced. Do you feel the clunk on the pedal? or even in the car?

Re: help! tranny noise (VXpride)
up for the night crew. someone has to have figured this out...someone just say "release bearings, and it's okay to drive on it for about 3 months.."
i really hope i can get away with this...should be able to afford a decent flywheel and clutch by then.
*edit - I live in cali. but actually did go up and visit WA. I was in everett, seattle and um...some no name city about 20 minutes away. thanks for all your help bro. *

Re: help! tranny noise (all stock)
Hm I ground the hell out of 2nd gear. Broke the seal around the axel. Some of the metal broke off. Caused some funky metal sounds (like a piece bouncing around, which it was) from the tranny. Like stated, check fluid level. If it is broken you should be leaking. If a whirring sound comes up, you need a new tranny (like I did heh)

Re: help! tranny noise (all stock)
I think I know what you're talkin about, I get it everytime I shift. It's like a faint clunking sound from underneith everytime you let off the throttle to shift. I'm getting my tranny fluid replaced this weekend to see what the problem is. I'll check the level also. I also need a valve adjustment for the "ticking" sound that I hate so much.
