Help - Tranny Kind of Sticks in Gear!!
Hi Guys,
I have a 00 Si with 109k miles, and the stock clutch. When I go to shift from 2nd to 3rd, and sometimes from other various gears to other gears, it feels like im having to force the transmission out of gear. Even tho the clutch is depressed, it kinda feels like im not using the clutch. While that kinda sounds like a clutch issue, the cluch does not feel like its slipping. Also it seems to be more difficult these days to get the car into reverse, and sometimes first. Im thinking possibly clutch, but Im open for your opinions.
Thanks guys

check the level of the clutch fluid. Low clutch fluid will cause the type of symptoms you are having. The other thing could be a bad MC or SC but check the level first. If it is low top it off and keep an eye on it to see if you have a leak somewhere

check the adjsutment of the clutch pedal under the dash if you don;t have a loose rod then it's too tinhgt not leeting the clutch all the way out and it can cause pre-mature wear onthe clutch. this a clutch going out can cause exactly what your describing as well.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the replies so far. The fluid in the car is Honda brand. I will check the fluid level and the adjustment tonight. I was wondering what kinda life people are getting out of their stock clutches? I know that some people are pretty hard on them and they dont make it to 100k miles, but im curious.

yea, make sure you do that asap, or else your synchro hubs will hate you forever... i had this happen with a leaky slave cylinder, and drove it for 5,000 miles, thinking it was the clutch, tranny almost refused to shift gears after a while, pulled the tranny off to fidn the clutch perfectly fine, with lots of life, and i pull the tranny apart, to find my hubs almost stripped of their teeth grinding as it "tried" to go into gear.

</TD></TR></TABLE>I had to replace the oem clutch at 140k. I found out when I changed it that it had better the 1/2 the friction material left. But one of the clutch disc springs had failed and came out of the disc and jammed up the works. Clutch life is depends on how you drive it.
