Help with timing belt?
What do the valve cover bolts have to be torqued to when putting it back on?
How do I have to position the cam gears and crank when taking the belt out?
Any other little tips?

get the helms in my sig. then you will know all the torque settings

valve cover bolts just tighten down slightly they snap off easy. you need to be at #1 TDC compression stroke. both cam gears have an arrow that says "UP" they need to be pointing up. if you think your at TDC and they arent pointing up then your 180* off.

Get a big-*** breaker bar for the crank pulley bolt. Helped on a friend's last night and they found a big bar at a construction lot that was about 6 or 7 feet long and 5 inches in diameter. Worked like a charm.

You dont have to position the crank pulley and cam gears when you are pulling the belt off, but when u put the new on on make sure they are set to TDC.
You need to make the valve cover bolts 1 hand tight...meaning use a 3" extension and tighten them with one hand, once they dont go anymore dont force them or they will break.

it's much easier to set all the timing marks before taking off the old belt-makes it much easier to put the new belt on as evrything is already pretty close.also,you don't want to be turning the cams and crank separately.valve/piston clearance issues could cause a problem if the two were to contact and you keep trying to turn the cam/crank.

I believe the spec is 7 lb-ft.

Yeah good point, i'm trying to remember back to when i did mine. I turned the cam almost to TDC...but when I put the belt back on I still had to adjust the crank pulley and cam just a bit...
But yeah do what he says...I dont know what i'm talking about
