Why not fix the problem before you cause more damage?

What's wrong with the cooling system?

placing a switch in line with the circuit will only make it so you can turn off the fan if the system wants it. This is simply asking for overheating problems or even a torched engine.

Like Deemeetree said, fix the problem and everything will take care of itself.
